Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route seasonal opening date varies so make sure to check their website for updates. Our experience was last May 14, 2025 when the snow wall was still on its tallest height.

Tateyama Snow Wall 1 Day Bus Tour from Nagoya
I saw that there are 2D1N tours available but we only availed the day tour from Nagoya since our rooms were already booked and it felt like a waste to not sleep the night in Sakae. We did four day trips to Central Japan which all left from Nagoya. I mean, sanay naman sa traffic ng Manila so travelling 2-4 hours a day felt fine.
Winter vibe in May
One of the many places I never thought I'd get to visit in this lifetime.
I saw photos of the snow wall two years ago and I immediately thought it was in Hokkaido. Lo and behold, it's Central Japan and you only get like 2 months window to visit.
The ride to the Snow Wall takes a long time but the bus was comfortable. We brought snacks with us too. Eating inside the bus was allowed as long as there are no crumbs and you'd take your trashes with you.
I wasn't able to note the travel time but it was probably around 3-4 hours per way. We had two toilet breaks and had a sumptuous lunch (package inclusive) before heading to the snow wall.
TIP: Take every chance you get to go down the bus and stretch regardless if you feel the need to pee or buy snacks.

Snow Wall Height: 16 meters
This is a bus tour of the snow wall so we didn't ride the cable car. The bus parks at Murodo Station and you'll be given ample time to roam around the area/ Murodo Plateau.
Much more beautiful in person. Definitely a must-visit!
There were a lot of people in the snow wall so taking photos was a challenge. We went back the building after walking halfway.
We transferred to this area where the snow corridor is.
There were not a lot of people here. Unless you pay attention, you can miss the turn going to the corridor because at you can see, the sign was small.
The accumulated snow gradually diminishes in height as temperatures rise.

Murodo serves as the central hub of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. Maybe someday I'd get the chance to see more of this Alpine Route but may the universe lead me first to Hokkaido. Hahaha!

We knew there would be snow but we didn't expect that it'll still be this much in May.
Make sure to bring your sunglasses because snow glare might hurt your eyes, and apply sunscreen as well because snow doubles your exposure to UV rays.
