There are two border crossing options for your Hong Kong and Macau Trip. Looking for the better of the two will depend on your situation or preference.

Good questions to ask when deciding:

1. How much is my budget?
2. How many hours can I allot for travel time?
3. Do I easily get seasick?

Ferry and bus during the "crossing" will both take an hour. The differences are 1. price, 2. location/distance of the ports, 3. volume of people at the immigration counter

Klook link: Buy your Hong Kong Octopus card here.

I've tried both ways of crossing so this is my attempt to compare hoping that I can help you decide which suits your time and budget more.

Hong Kong - Macau - Zhuhai Border Crossing via Bus
Open 24 hours

As of November 2023:

Bus ticket: 65 HKD per person
Bus fare (can be paid via Octopus card or cash) to HZMB Hong Kong Port Passenger Clearance Building via the Airport Bus: 33 HKD
Bus fare in Macau: 6 HKD/ 6 MOP

FYI: This is currently the longest bridge-tunnel system sea-crossing in the world.

This port is in Lantau Island so you can also ride the MTR to Sunny Bay and B5 bus to the clearance building. I opted for the airport bus because we had our luggage with us.

The bus ride itself was comfortable and there are a lot of buses plying this route non-stop, immigration process was fast but this will also depend on the volume of people that will be there with you

Tickets can be purchased using Octopus card, Cash, or Credit Card. No reservations needed.

Klook link: Buy your Hong Kong Octopus card here.

Again, take into consideration that going to HZMB Hong Kong Port Passenger Clearance Building via the airport bus takes more than an hour from the center of Hong Kong.

Going to Cotai, Taipa, old Macau from the border may also take an hour.

Riding the bus for the border crossing definitely saved us money but it took us around 4 hours for the whole process so if you're crossing for a day tour then also bring a lot of patience 'cause you might need to spend 6-8 hours travelling back and forth the clearance buildings and four immigration counters. If you decide to take this, start as early as you can.

If I were to do this again, then I'd still choose the bus if it's round trip or for when my airplane ticket enters and exits Hong Kong.

We rode this pre-pandemic so this experience that I'll write below is assuming that not a lot of things has changed since then.

The ferry port we rode at was in Sheung Wan, I believe there's a also a port in Kowloon. It's close if you're staying in Central, TST, Mongkok etc. for you don't have to travel back to the airport area.

The ferry in Macau side is closer to the tourist attractions compared to the Gongbei border. Also, there should be a lot of casino free shuttles you can ride from here. This is still the more efficient way of crossing borders especially for day tourers.

If I were to do a Macau Day Tour from Hong Kong (which I'd rather not), I'll ride the Ferry back and forth especially if money/budget is not an issue or I'd ride the Ferry going to Macau then the bus going back to Hong Kong.

Btw, Macau is one of my favorite destinations so it's not enough for me to stay for a few hours if I'm there. But I also understand why a lot of travelers opt for a day tour 'cause if you plan your itinerary well, a day should really be enough to explore the famous tourist spots in Macau.

PICTURES FROM THE BUS RIDE:

This building is new and it's easy to navigate even for first timers. Here you'd have to show your passport and arrival card 'cause you're exiting Hong Kong. There wasn't an arrival form in Macau but you'd have to answer the HK arrival form again when going back to Hong Kong.

No traffic. No seasickness.

Macau side was also easy to navigate. There's are several bus outside although I wasn't paying attention so I don't know if there were free shuttles here as well.

If you plan on staying the night in Macau, personally the best way was how we did it before.

Exit Airport - Macau
For this, you won't need to cross the border twice.

Macau is definitely famous for its casino but there are a lot of things to see aside from Cotai Strip also called, "the Las Vegas of Asia." Cotai truly looks like the Vegas Strip without the liberated (lol) people you can see in Las Vegas. For me, that is the only major difference of those two places 'cause a lot of the hotels are similar.

(4D4N) Macau Travel Itinerary; 'Cause it's more than a day tour

I've been to Macau twice, and to be honest, it's alright with me if I keep coming back there. Anyway, okay, andami ko na namang sinabi.

I was reminded of this place when I read somewhere that this is a free attraction in Macau. I searched this blog for an entry but it turns out that I haven't posted any information about this before.

Klook Link: Purchase your Macau pass here.

This is the ticket back in 2019. We paid 10 MOP for the entrance. I'm not sure about the information I've read that it's now free but I think paying 10 MOP for the experience was also worth it.

It's very easy to get here 'cause there's a bus stop in front. Just input the name of the place in Google map wherever you are in Macau and it shall provide the bus number and instruction for you.

Inside the Panda enclosure.

Haven't seen them awake. I don't know what is the feeding time but it's probably a good idea to time your visit by that time so you can see them eating rather than sleeping.

The first time I saw a panda was in Taiwan Zoo.

Taiwan: Taiwan Zoo

This post also showed the growth of my hair in a year and four months, with trims every 5 months. hahaha

Aside from the panda enclosure, there's also a mini zoo in this place. You can see monkeys, red pandas, and flamingos.

Our ticket in March 2018

March weather was pleasant, more than pleasant to tour around actually 'cause it was cold. We spent four days here back then and we walked and hiked but the cool weather made all our physical activities easy. I remember mostly staying indoors in July 2019 'cause it was hot and uncomfortable.

If you have more time to spare, take a look at the map of the area especially of Seac Pai Van Park. I think there's a trail here somewhere.

By the way, there's a gift shop in this place. Must visit if you like buying souvenirs.

After walking around near the border of Macau and Zhuhai, we rode a bus to get here. From the border, we rode the free shuttle bus of MGM to MGM Grand. I have the backlog ready but I chose to post this first.

At first, it was more confusing to ride the city buses in Macau 'cause not only don't we have a loose change for the payment, we didn't know the routes. What usually happened was we looked for the pick-up points of the free casino hotel shuttle buses and then work our way from there since we weren't in a hurry anyway. On our third day, the places in our itinerary weren't shuttled by the hotels. We got used to riding the public city buses and we had enough smaller bills for the fare so it became easier.

MGM Grand

We didn't go inside the MGM Grand since the other MGM along Cotai Strip was the one in our itinerary. When we went home to the Philippines, we saw in one of the photos uploaded in Instagram that the interior of this MGM was beautiful too. Kinda like the Palazzo Hotel in Las Vegas with big butterfly statues on display inside the main hall.

Statue of Kun Iam - Buddhist Goddess of Love, Mercy, and Compassion

This is located in the waterfront area in Macau Peninsula.

One of the reasons why I liked Macau is it was a mix of everything that interests me. For the religion aspect, albeit Buddhism being the predominant religion in the area, they have several Roman Catholic churches there as well. I am a practicing Roman Catholic but I observe Buddhism as a way of life/living. I see to it that I stop by and visit Buddhist temples whenever I travel. No. Actually, scratch that 'cause I like visiting temples of various religions.

The dome below the statue is a Lotus-shaped Ecumenical Center which is accessible for free to the public.

This place is like an isolated part of Macau peninsula despite having several hotels in front of it. One the other side, btw, you can see the ferries from Hong Kong. I might blog about the border crossing of HK - Macau too.

Singapore - Indonesia Border Crossing via Ferry

It was smoggy in Macau so the photos are gloomy. But in the photo above, there's a faint white statue of Goddess A-Ma - the goddess of seafarers and fishermen on top of the mountain. That area is Coloane, there is a cultural village and the coastal trail is there as well. I was expecting Macau to be a small country but it was smaller than what I was expecting. Have we allotted a week there, we could've toured around the whole country.

Macau Beyond Casinos Tour: Hac Sa Long Chao Kok Coastal Trail (黑沙海濱馬路)

We knew Wynn Hotel has a fountain show outside that's why we waited until sunset in that area so we can watch it.

The show in Wynn Palace along Cotai Strip is grander though this one was worth the visit as well.

Macau: Wynn Palace, Cotai Strip

We had a lot of time to explore this area. As you can see, the tall building in the middle of this picture is Lisboa Hotel. It looks far from the water fountain but we were able to walk to a farther hotel where we had our dinner before going back to our hotel.

Ganda nito in person especially at night.

Very Downtown Vegas feels here in Macau Peninsula. Ganda ng night lights tapos may slight sea breeze pa.

From this angle, you can see where we came from. Sa dulo pa nung right most building (MGM Grand). HAHAHA! Para sa iba parusa na maglakad ng ganyang kahaba pero it was our normal. :)) Kakamiss din! Keri lang, madami naman nababalikan kagaya nito. 💓

March was a good month to visit Macau. Perfect weather! The second time I visited there was July and it was their summer so it was really hot and humid.

First post in this blog for this year goes to Paris!!

Happy New Year!!!

The Parisian Macao labas for the Eiffel Tower replica. Hahaha!

Watching Emily in Paris and Amélie kinda re-ignited my Parisian/Europe dreams. Bakit kasi tayo nood ng nood kung wala naman tayo mapuntahan at wala pa tayong budget?! 🤣

It will take years before I'd get there and I don't even know if this lifetime will allow me to pero kk, bahala na. Dito muna ko sa mga Eiffel Tower replicas ko at least, diba. Napuntahan ko na.

This was taken during the first time I went to Macau. I went there in 2018 and in 2019. Both trips I was not able to upload entirely here, kapag di ko pa natapos lahat ngayong 2021, ewan ko na lang.

I've decided to upload my backlogs just so I'd have things to post apart from my life updates that no one is asking for. Di lang ikaw nagsasawa sa selfies, ako rin naman. Wala lang kasi akong choice. hahaha.

Cotai Strip 💗

I can't remember which hotel did we take this photo from but there was a queue when we passed by so we fell in line too. Inggitera lang. haha!

(4D4N) Macau Travel Itinerary; 'Cause it's more than a day tour

It's impossible to miss this spot when travelling to Macao, specifically in Cotai Strip since it stands out. It's actually much better to have photos taken here than the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas since this is less crowded. Even the establishments - wider 'yung spaces between.

Second time in Macau.

What it looks like behind the photo. Hahaha!

May there be an Eiffel Tower/ France/ Totoong Europe moments in this lifetime someday. 💝

There's a light and sound show at night and you can also go up this Eiffel Tower since they have an observation deck. There's also a souvenir shop near the entrance of the observation deck where you can get souvenirs that will remind you somehow of Macau and Paris.

Just that when we were deciding which activity to do, we opted for the Ferris Wheel in Studio City which I'll be posting here soon as well.

Did not have a lot of time to walk around inside the Parisian, we just ate our dinner in their food court then went out again.

Nice to see the growth of my hair from March 2018 to July 2019 with one haircut between. Gives me hope na hindi na mauulit my five haircuts ng November 2019 - November 2020. HAHAHA!

Jusko, Tintin 2021++. Huwag ka muna kasi magpa-tempt sa malanding gunting! 'Yung ikaw kapag hindi ka impulsive, gusto makita kung ano itsura ng buhok mo na lalagpas sa shoulder length kahit daw magastos sa conditioner. 😂

Curlversary Update ❤️

The best thing you can do to save yourself from all the troubles is to locate the Guia Hill cable car at once. :)) We just searched Guia Hill and Google map pointed us to the trail so we had to walk all the way to the top of the hill passing through some residential areas.

It was a hike through this paved road. Good thing we visited Macau on a cold weather so it wasn't that tiring to walk around.

Hazy day Macau

So sad that people keeps on vandalizing tourist attractions. A lot of people are still thinking or dreaming to visit these places so leaving "marks" like this aren't ideal in keeping the area the same even after all the tourist arrivals.

This place has a complex military tunnel and there's an entrance to it if you want to explore but we decided not to. No other people was there with us that time so going inside a tunnel didn't feel like a good idea. lol.

Guia Chapel

If your first destination is the Cotai Strip and haven't researched about Macau beforehand, seeing this part is kind of surprising especially since Cotai and Coloane area have wide spaces and doesn't look crowded. I think this place/area is called the "Old Macau" Still worthy of your visit!

There's a fortress near St. Paul Ruins and one of the canyons there is pointing towards Lisboa. Will be blogging about that in the coming days as well.

We walked around for a bit more and finally found where the upper station of the cable car is.

It was just a short ride and it wasn't even expensive. HAHAHA! Sobrang hilig ba namin maglakad?! May sakayan naman kasi pala... :)))
