From DENR, we rode the monster jeepney to the Ranger Station of Mt. Pulag.

Mt. Pulag is standing at 2,922 meters above sea level. Ambangeg trail being the easiest trail of the three available trails to the summit, hikers will ride a monster jeep to the Ranger Station which is more or less already 2,000 meters above sea level.

Saying that the road was bumpy is probably an understatement. Aside from the picturesque view of Benguet mountains, bet 'yung feeling na akala mo 'yung jeepney na sinasakyan niyo roller coaster. Almost same sensation 'yung ibang steep roads sa roller coaster ng Enchanted Kingdom. Matarik na nga 'yung daan, bangin pa. Saan ka pa? :))))
Most of the view there is like this. The mountain/forest is slowly being converted to vegetable farms. And according to the DENR orientation, alarming na 'to. Kailangan maisipan sila ng alternative livelihood. Ano kaya?
We arrived at the Ranger Station safely and without needing to take Bonamine. Wala naman kasi akong dala na Bonamine. Hahaha.
The plantation is beautiful, isn't it?
Although I'd rather that they not expand the plantations anymore.
At the beginning of the trail, you'll be passing through the pine forest. At this point, it was still easy albeit some uphill and my 10 kgs. backpack was still bearable.
So close yet to far!!
One of those summits is Mt. Pulag.

Nobody said it was easy. No one ever said it would be this hard... thinking if I should take myself back to the start. WAHAHAHA. JOKE!!! No turning back.
After passing through the pine forest, you'd pass through the mossy forest.

Before we reached Camp 1, I don't have a picture of the place nga lang, our expedition leader told us, "Medyo mahirap. Assault na 'to."

SHET. ASSAULT. SHET. :))))

Anong nangyari? Shet nga. Hahahahahaha. I can laugh at eveything now but during those moments, I was smiling but I was so so so close to tears.
It was while in the mossy forest that I was already telling myself, "Ano bang pinag gagawa mo sa buhay mo?! Bakit kailangan mong maghirap ng ganito? Huhuhu"  HAHAHAHA. When other factors such as temperature, gravity, altitude, and weight of your bag are at play, it's difficult to the point that you'd want to back out. We just kept on reminding ourselves our expenses and the sea of clouds so we continued. hahaha.

Countless times I told myself that I should have hired a porter. Seryoso. Life would be a lot easier if you'd hire a porter. Traversing is  easier and you've supported the livelihood of the people in the area. That's hitting two birds with one stone kaso minus naman 'yung experience mo pagsisihan kung bakit napakarami mong dinala. Hahaha.

But if you're interested, you can hire someone for P 600.00 for 10 kgs and below packs.
Before I started trekking, I told myself that I will look at the view and appreciate the forest but when I was there, I couldn't even look around. I was only looking down because there's this thought that I might trip and fall in the ravine.

Whenever I hear about a person who died mountaineering, scuba diving ganyan. I'd tell myself, "At least that person died while doing the activity he loves." Pero when I was there, "Ayoko pa po please lang" Now, can you imagine how difficult the ascent was for me? I was even having those thoughts already. Hahahahaha.
I MADE IT!!!
CAMP 2! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I won't take all the credits though. hehehe Halfway the trek, Ate guide and my fellow climber helped me by carrying each of my 1.5L bottled water. Thanks to them too. :))

Wooooooo! Pinahirapan mo kong kalbo ka!!!!!!

Bakit kalbo?

In order to forget the hardship while trekking, we just asked our guide some questions like, "Why is Pulag called Mt. Pulag?" and according to her, Pulag means bald in their language.  It makes sense since from a mossy forest filled with different types of vegetation, you'd see the summits only covered in grasses and dwarf bamboo plants.
Our home for the night. :D
I love the feeling of walking and then 'yung clouds at fog, nasa gilid lang namin.

Hello, adik kaya ako sa fog. hahaha. Nakaka-relax para sa'kin tumingin sa fog at natutuwa ako pag nakakakita ako ng fog/ulap na mabilis gumalaw and I saw so much of that in Mt. Pulag. Sobrang thankful ko.

While walking around camp 2, I was praising myself for deciding to climb despite knowing the danger and the hardships that will come with it. But it's either, I underestimated the trail or I overestimated my stamina. Masokista talaga.
This selfie was taken near the latrine area.
There's no running water in the camp and no concrete comfort rooms. Walang ligo, punas punas lang. :))

During that time, it felt hot because of the sun but the wind was starting to get more chilly. Malamig na during the ascent actually.
The great divide.

You'd see where the mossy forest ends and where the grasslands begin. Parang, estuary ng Mt. Pulag National Park. Halos ka-itsura when salt water meets fresh water eh.
Thank you, God that I am able to experience these things.

Thank you, God for the gift of life.

LOOKING FOR That Thing Called Tadhana Quotes? Here.

ITO PO.

Paki-click 'yung "ITO PO" o "HERE" para ma-redirect kayo sa post na may quotes from the movie.

In short, tatanga-tanga.

Hahahaha.

ROMCOM KASI YUNG MOVIE, DIBA? HAHAHAHAHA. Woooo. Masokista levels, Tin. Iba ka. HAHAHAHA.

Where do broken hearts go? Baguio? Sagada? Rome?

Kaya ba dalawang beses akong nag Baguio ngayong 2014 at kaya ba pangarap ko rin makapunta ng Sagada at Rome e dahil broken ako?

Hindi... hindi masyado. hehehe.

Coming from a family who don't always travel, ang lala ko.

I'm structuring my life around the possibility of traveling for a lot of times more, of going places and of getting out of my comfort zone. I know that I'll be able to go to a lot more places in the future. As in na-claim ko na 'yung ganung lifestyle.

Alam mo 'yung quote na, "Sometimes you'll find yourself in the middle of nowhere. And sometimes, in the middle of nowhere you'll find yourself"?

Parang ganyan lang.

I'm not doing this to forget. I'm doing this because it is in travelling that I was healed. Hindi from a romantic kind of brokenness but that healing from the stage when you feel so lost and you have no idea what it is that you want to do with your life. I am healed and I have moved on from that phase because I've found my passion.

Life's uncertain and full of surprises kaya bahala na. And from someone who's used to not making plans? Aba. I've gone a long way. Iba-iba naman tayo ng pinagdadaanan. Don't judge. :)))

Siguro, iniisip mo ngayon.

"Ano problema nito? Anong point?"

You have your own life and success should be defined by you lang not by how other people define it. At the end of the day, ikaw, self-satisfaction at kasiyahan mo lang ang mahalaga.

Don't get stuck. It gets better. It should.

Kagaya kung anong nangyari kay Mace at kay Anthony, siguro kahit anong sakit 'yung nararamdaman natin at kahit gaano kalabo man 'yung future natin ngayon... andun talaga 'yung magic when we start to celebrate life and embrace all the adventures it will present to us. Kahit masakit at kahit nakakatakot, harapin lang natin at huwag tayo tatakas. Who knows? Who knows?

A place where broken hearts go?

'Yan din ay 'yung person we will become may special someone man tayo o wala.

May our dreams for ourselves also be God's dream for us.
Cheers to the great people we will be. <3<3

ANG DAMI KONG SINABI. SHEMS. DI KASI AKO MAKATULOG AT AS USUAL SOBRANG EFFECTIVE PAMPAANTOK PAG NAGSUSULAT AKO. HAHAHAHAHAHA. :))))))

P.S. Hehehehe. May relevance din naman. :)))))

HAAYYY. NAIRAOS DIN!!!! <3

The mountains are calling. I must go.

None of all the times I have packed and unpacked has prepared me to the pack of my life that is Mt. Pulag climb. 'Yung totoo talaga, pwede naman sana nag-impake ako the night before, noh?? hehe.

*1 down/bubble jacket, 1 black hoodie, my BB jacket, 1 long sleeves, 3 shirts, 1 sarong, 1 jogging pants, 1 leggings, 1 rain coat, 2 pair of socks, 2 bonnets, 2 pair of gloves etc.

*3L of water was more than enough. There are two water sources in Mt. Pulag so if you're not sensitive, 1.5L is enough and you can just refill your bottle from the water source.

*Don't forget to bring wet wipes because it is more important and useful than soap while in the mountain.

*Head light for your night trek. It is a lot better to trek to the summit handsfree.

*Hindi uso ang change outfit sa Mt. Pulag. Ang mas uso dun? Patong outfit. hehehehe.

*Bring your lakas ng loob.

Pulag? Yes. So you will be able to sleep better. Freezing nights eh. Pero may dala ba kami? Wala. Matibay. HAHAHAHA. My friend gave me that (fleece) blanket and it was my savior. (Mishu, bebe. Gamit ko 'yung kumot na binigay mo. Hahahaha! Kumo-commercial.) I made it through the night with just that, sarong, 4 layers of clothing, 2 layers of socks, gloves, bonnet and prayers. :))
While we were waiting for the bus, my friend gave me these candies and told me to eat one if I'd feel like giving up during the ascend.

Because the candies said so, we knew we could do it!
Tarlac Stop-Over

I was reminded of our stop-over in Singapore when I went down the bus. Grabe.  I always appreciate bus rides and stop-overs at night. It's a pleasant feeling for me whenever I sleep on a bus on a way to someplace. Weird. Hahaha
We reached Baguio.
Sabi ko na, Baguio eh. Pakiramdam ko talaga babalik ako at babalik ako ulit next year. :)

Baguio City Itinerary link: here.
We arrived at around 3:30 AM and the temperature that time was 12 degrees. Good thing there was a strawberry taho vendor and it was through his taho we somehow felt warm.
This monster jeep took us to Kabayan, Benguet. It's not called monster jeep for nothing. Hari ng kalsada talaga.
Ambuklao Dam before sunrise
I don't know where we ate breakfast but the place seemed famous to climbers. Almost all people there were also about to hike.

The rice they have is the same variant I had in Cafe by the Ruins.

I searched online and one thing I found out about this Mountain Sticky Violet rice is that it is rare and is highly prized sticky rice grown in the region of Northern Luzon.
The view from the eatery.

It's like the mountains casted a spell on me. <3 Sobrang ganda.
After having breakfast, we went to DENR office to register and to be oriented.
We were shown a 20-minutes video presentation about Pulag and about the things we should do and not do while hiking.

I've also learned that there are three trails to the summit: 1. Ambangeg, our trail which is also the easiest. 2. Akiki 3. Trail passing through the lakes in the park.

Shemsssss! Ito na talaga 'yun.

Wala ng atrasan!!!! :))))))

P.S. If for you'd feel like you have not brought enough, there are stores selling bonnets, jackets, etc. outside DENR.

I don't know if it's Banapple's marketing strategy, or if most of my friends are just coincidentally craving for Banapple these days, or it's my Instagram posts kasi nakikita nila kaya gusto din nila kumain dun.

Anyhow, Banapple Pies and Cheesecakes has seven pasta dishes in their menu all of which I have tasted in the past weeks so here's my top five.

I got the descriptions from Banapple's page. :) I think for a person with "normal" appetite, an order of any of these dishes will be enough for two.

Penne Bolognese
P 200.00

An aromatic meat sauce, blended with Italian herbs and spices, drizzled with luscious olive oil

Lasagna Roll-Ups
P 210.00

Herbed cream and Parmesan cheeses fill al dente lasagna wide strips, are rolled up, and smothered with classic tomato meat

I was torn between this lasagna and penne for my first choice because I love how different Banapple's lasagna from the others I've tasted. Nasa labas kasi 'yung meat and the fillings are herbed cream and parmesan cheese kaso for a serving kase, meron lang dalawa so mukhang mas marami 'yung Penne. Pero for the taste siguro, pwede rin 'to mag first. Bet 'yung filling talaga.

White Chocolate Truffle Blueberry Cheesecake
P 135.00/slice

This is now my favorite cake in Banapple.

The simple blueberry cheesecake used to be my first and banoffee pie my second pero mas favorite ko na nga 'yung isa.

Pasta Verde
P 200.00

A rich blend of chopped basil, olive oil, and pecans, served with al dente penne pasta.

Okay naman din 'to kaso naparami 'yung oil. Sana balanced lang 'yung leaves (leaves ba talaga. hahahaha) saka 'yung oil para well-distributed 'yung pesto sauce hindi 'yung ibang penne, walang lasa.
Baked Creamy Cheesy Penne
P 215.00

A well-loved dish of luscious white cheese sauce and meaty tomato sauce, with al dente penne pasta and sauteed Hungarian sausage.

This is my fourth because it was too creamy for me. Okay naman siya at first especially with the mozzarella cheese topping pero pag nagtagal na, umay na.

Trio of Sausages Fettucine
P 215.00

Protein-packed pasta of crumbled chorizo, garlic longganisa, and Hungarian sausage, tossed in garlic, Parmesan cheese, and a very light cream sauce

SAYA FACTOR:
9/10

Bakit may -1? There are times kasi medyo mabagal 'yung service nila. :)

As I started to embrace the life of travelling (Well, I've traveled a lot this year. Pwede ko na siguro sabihin 'yan. haha!), I have been very very mindful with where I'm spending my money on. The old me would just buy anything I like as long as it's cheap. Shirts? Bags? Shoes? If they're cheap, then expect me to buy one in a jiffy. It was only this year when I realized that buying cheap yet poorly-made product isn't helping me save money at all. So now even if I have to spend more, one excellent product is better than purchasing a lot of products with poor quality. You get what you pay for eh.

Given all the available local and international brands in the market today, how do we know which is one of the best? By setting standards, diba?

Thankfully, Taiwan government has initiated and has started a campaign to help us, consumers, to be able to identify which of the brands is the best among the rest.

Through the Bureau of Foreign Trade of Taiwan (BOFT) and Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) , this campaign called, "Taiwan Excellence" has reached the soil of the Philippines.

What is special about TAIWAN EXCELLENCE?

All Taiwan-based brands are eligible to join and then their products will be evaluated by an international panel of judges. Each product should then score evenly on its R&D, quality, design, and marketing categories. Pag okay, the brands will then receive what they call SEAL OF EXCELLENCE. Among the selected products again, the judges will choose the Silver and Gold Seal Awardees. Diba, the Taiwan government has done us a favor kasi sila na 'yung sumala in order to give consumers the best products Taiwan has to offer.

In total, Taiwan Excellence will be bringing in 56 top quality brands here in our country and of those brands naman (for examples: Acer, Asus, BenQ, Draytek, HCG, KingCom, KW Trio, Kymco, MSI, Silicon Power, Sym, Transcend, and others) will be bringing in a total of 175 products under different industries such as in home and living, sports and leisure, and information and technology.

With this campaign, you don't have to spend a lot for an excellent lifestyle. All you need is to be informed which of the available brands/products are worth buying.

Head over to TAIWAN EXCELLENCE WEBSITE and TAIWAN EXCELLENCE FACEBOOK PAGE to know more.
