Taipei Main Station to Ruifang: link
Shifen Old Street:  link
Shifen Waterfalls: link

We went back to Ruifang Station where we rode a bus to Jiufen area. If you have more time, you can visit the Gold Museum first before going here. We just didn't have enough time and it was also raining that night.

This is an alley of food establishments and souvenir shops. Make sure you haven't eaten before going here because there's too much to choose from.

We were looking for the tea shop/area that they said is the inspiration for the Japanese movie spirited away but we missed the alley where we were supposed to turn right at so we didn't see it.

However, we arrived at this area which is overlooking the houses on the hills and the ocean.

During our walk back, this strawberry mochi caught our attention that we took time to try eating one piece each... but one wasn't enough. I was never a fan of mochi but that changed the moment I tasted this!! I now understand why people love mochi. And that huge strawberry was a plus!!! Haven't eaten a good strawberry since USA 'yung peg ko nyan.

While in the mochi shop, I asked for the restroom and it was then did I saw the alley leading down to the tea shop but it was already late and still raining so I decided to forgo seeing it.

We went back the waiting shed and hailed a bus back to Taipei. <3

Train ride from Taipei Main Station to Shifen Old Street link: here.
Walking along Shifen Old Street link: here.

The post below will have pictures of our walk to Shifen Waterfalls. It was drizzling that day so I couldn't take better photos... as if naman may matino talaga. :)))

From Shifen Old Street, we rode a cab 'cause we felt that we were getting nowhere walking by the road. Don't even know if it was alright to walk there because no one was walking with us. HAHA!

When we reached the gate/trail head, we just followed the crowd until we reached the bridge. There were too much people that we had to wait for our turn to cross the bridge since they made it one way.

Since it has been raining that time, the current for both the waterfalls and the river was strong as you'd notice.

I was thrilled seeing these maple leaves that turned gold. AUTUMN!!!

Will this be my lucky charm in being able to experience winter this year? Let's see. :))

After walking for quite a while, we reached the waterfalls. No wonder this is called the Niagara Falls of Taiwan. Looking at the strong current of the water that cascades from this waterfalls.

The observation area is of two levels. You just have to wait for your turn in taking pictures because this is really a touristy spot.

Where the water falls. <3

Overall, I liked that we went to this part of Taiwan because trips like this is my style. I love trekking to waterfalls and here is actually one of the easiest trek that I've done that led to a breathtaking view.

Going back to Shifen Old Street was a bit of a problem... while you can walk back, it was drizzling so we had to ride a cab again but then, there were no cabs and if there was, they were servicing other tourists which led us to meeting a kind cab driver again.

We walked towards his cab 'cause we thought that he was in line but it turns out that he was a service of other tourists. He told us something but we didn't understand so we said yes and went back to the waiting shed to shelter from the rain. Realizing that we didn't understand what he said, he went out of his cab, walked to us while it was raining, and showed us the other waiting shed (the one in the main road) where we should wait. Nakakatouch! Grabe, when strangers do kind things rather than try to take advantage of tourists. Hay, Taiwan!! <3

I don't have a lot of pictures from Shifen Old Street, Shifen Waterfalls, and Jiufen Old Street because it was raining almost all the time. Haaay. During these times, I miss my waterproof camera. Hay! Hahaha. K whatever.

Anyway, in this post here. I've  already given the instructions on how to go to Shifen riding a train from Taipei Main Station.

We took pictures at the rail and walked around the stalls for some time. There are souvenir shops and food stalls in this area but there were too much of them so we weren't able to choose... ended up not eating here at all. lol.

Continued walking and we reached this hanging bridge. We thought that Shifen Waterfalls is walking distance from this area but it turned out that it was quite far that we just decided to take a cab.

We wanted to save money (and the Earth. lol) that's why we decided not to purchase sky lanterns in Shifen.

From what we've observed, the souvenirs were a little cheaper at this place. Kapag turista, walang makakapigil sa'tin?! HAHAHA!

After going back from the waterfalls, we walked towards the station and it was only then we knew that you can use the transportation card to pay your train fare... sayang! may kaunting discount pa naman.

Again, this day began at Taipei Main Station.  Well, technically, in Ximending Station but we bought the train ticket at Taipei Main Station. We arrived at the station at 10 AM but the earliest ticket we got was 11:45. You can try purchasing ticket the night before if you want to secure earlier seats.

The machine we used to purchase the ticket was confusing at first but we got the hang of it. The fare from Taipei Main was 76 NTD. Just make sure you're standing by the car/wagon indicated in your ticket so you won't have to run when the train arrives.

We arrived at Ruifang after 32 minutes (12:17) bought tickets to Shifen Old Street and went out to the nearby convenience store to grabs some lunch. Hahaha!

It was drizzling most of the afternoon but I didn't want to purchase a poncho so I settled with just my jacket.

There's a bus station directly across the station but that route is back to Taipei. You'd have to walk a few blocks away from Ruifang if you want to go to Jiufen instead of Shifen.

SAVIOR!! hahaha!

Going to Shifen, the train was a bit packed but we were still able to take a seat.

The train gets so packed when you're going back to Jiufen. I think the best thing to do is go here earlier than what we did just so you'd be able to beat the crowd and see more of the place.

You'd know that you've arrived at Shifen if you'll see train tracks where some people take pictures in and you'll see lanterns floating in the sky.

To get to Jiufen, we rode the train back to Ruifang and from there, we rode a bus that took us straight to Jiufen.
