I have read several posts I created a few years back where I was saying, I mean, proudly saying that I didn't wear sunscreen even for a beach trip. Well, sis, not possible now. I'll forever be wearing a sunscreen and I'm even trying to make reapplication a habit.

I have always read that it is recommended to reapply sunscreen. I never got myself into that habit since I found it uncomfortable, and to be honest, I was too lazy to do so. I was also worried that reapplying would irritate and clog my skin. I used to only have liquid sunscreens with me, btw so it was not convenient.

In July this year, my friend and I went to Tokyo, Japan. It was summer season, and we read that it was going to be really hot. We didn't want to risk getting sun burnt while fully enjoying our trip. I figured that I had to get myself a sun stick so I don't have to use my fingers, and I can easily reapply throughout the day. I got this product - Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Airy Sun Stick. It was an easy choice, and I pair this with Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Sun Gel, which has been my HG for more than a year now. With this, which I reapplied as often as I can, an umbrella, water, and a portable mini electric fan, we were able to survive Japan's scorching weather.

Since that trip, I got into the habit of reapplying sun screen mainly because it became effortless to do. All I do is wipe my face if I perspired or pat the oil on my face using an oil control film, then swipe this on my face and neck. Never did it congest my skin, nor did it cause me to break out even if I kept on reapplying.

This is practical, convenient, and definitely changed the game for me. 🥰

Japan has a humid subtropical climate and its summer heat is insane. This is coming from someone who lives in the Philippines where it's summer all year long. I mean, okay, we're used to hot humid weather but Tokyo heat felt different. I imagined myself placed in a convection oven.

We chanced upon three matsuri/festival during our trip. All three were held in one day but in different areas so that day was pretty packed. It was the most tiring yet most unforgettable out of all the days we spent in Tokyo.

1. Shinjuku Eisa Festival
2. Marunouchi Summer Festival
3. Sumidagawa Fireworks Festival

Announcements for 2024 schedule of these festivals will be posted when the date comes closer next year but they're usually held late July. We didn't know about these until around three weeks before our trip.

Actually, there are a lot of festivals in Japan throughout the year so check websites to know more if there's one during your travel.

Shinjuku Eisa Festival

Eisa is a folk dance that originated in Okinawa to honor the spirit of ancestors, typically performed by younger members of the community. This festival has been held annually for the past 20 years.

This is held near Shinjuku Station's East Exit. If you're unfamiliar with Shinjuku then make sure you're heading the right way. We got lost and almost didn't find our way here since found ourselves far in the West Exit. HAHAHA.

Marunouchi Summer Festival

This was held for two days outside Tokyo Station. This place
became a windchime street with Tokyo Station's Marunouchi Building as the backdrop. There was a program during the first night but we were in Yokohama so we weren't able to attend that.

Again, being able to attend festivals/seasonal attractions made this trip so worth it despite the scorching heat. You wouldn't be able to attend these out of season.

But unless I'd have a lot of surplus money, given a free trip, or other  circumstance when I need to go back - this is probably my first and last summer trip in Japan. I love Japan but I prefer spring, autumn, and winter. Okay na po ako sa summer ng Pilipinas.

 Sumidagawa Fireworks Festival

Tokyo's #1 Fireworks Festival. It is called Sumidagawa Fireworks Festival or Sumidagawa Hanabi Taikai in Japanese. 🥰

The best!!!!! I don't have pictures of the festival but I recorded some videos. It was an extremely busy night that I wasn't able to record the experience of walking etc.

So lucky to time our trip on its resume after four years of COVID hiatus, and we were two of the 1.035 million attendees.

From Hanami in 2019 to Hanabi in 2023, we have so much love for Japan! 🌸🎆 🇯🇵 We hope to visit more places and attend more festivities (different season) next time. ❤️

Additional kilig pa nga since attending these felt like experiencing scenes I've watched in anime. Alam mo 'yon. ahaha

This post will include several topics but they all happened during our travel from Manila, Philippines to Tokyo, Japan. This is our second time in Japan but first time in Tokyo.

As of July 2023:

1. NAIA Terminal 3 Immigration Experience
2. Narita Airport (Arrival Card and Customs Declaration)

4. Where to withdraw Yen currency in Narita Airport for Philippine debit card holders (I think this is one of the ATM that has good rates)
5. Skytrain via Klook -

I will be posting links that will direct you to where you can book online tickets.

Please be kind. HAHAHAHA.
I'm trying my best despite my obvious lack of creativity and skills.

Second Time in Japan: Places We Visited in Tokyo

First Time in Japan: Northern Kyushu Itinerary, Expenses and Travel Tips (From Hakata in Fukuoka)

I bought those limited edition Arizona x Adidas collaboration sneakers when I saw the pair on sale in Busan, South Korea and I was supposed to use them in Spring 2020. Life happened. But at least they were finally able to go to Japan and fulfill their main purpose. 🤣

1. Immigration Experience

It was the fastest out of all our out of the country trips. We only spent 30 minutes in line at the immigration counter until the X-ray machines.

But we have a lot of previous travels and Japan requires a visa so we didn't need to show other documents aside from our passport and visa. We've prepared the QR code beforehand but it wasn't asked for at the counter. We weren't asked a lot of questions.

It's just sad that a lot of people encounter difficulties passing through the immigration especially for first timers and solo travelers. Traveling to another country and/or proving one's capacity to travel shouldn't be that hard and traumatizing for anyone.

Our flight was delayed for forty minutes.

Narita's Immigration was fast but we weren't able to prepare the arrival card/arrival QR code beforehand. We spent several minutes to answer and to form in line. Also, because we got confused about the Customs Declaration Form.

Here's the link for the fast track: Arrival Card and Customs Declaration

It's best to accomplish the forms online so you can head straight to the immigration queue upon disembarkation. You won't be allowed to leave the airport without submitting both the Arrival Card and Customs Declaration Form.

2. Our choices for internet connection were buying a sim card and availing a hotspot/pocket wifi. We settled for the former because we didn't want another responsibility. haha! We didn't want to pay deposit nor allot time in returning the device. E-sim cards are also becoming popular but our phones weren't compatible so it was out of our options.

Instructions on where exactly this is claimed is in the voucher.

2. I used to prepare the currency of the country I'm visiting while still here in the Philippines but the hassle of doing that isn't worth it anymore.

You'll find a 7-11 branch in Narita Airport and it has a good exchange rate. Head to this floor near this gachapon area to find it.

Where to withdraw in Narita

There are several machines at the airport but the one in 7-11 is what I recommend because it has a good exchange rate.

Exchange rate for that day:

Actual Yen rate from Google: 1 JPY = 0.38720 PHP

Rate from 7-11 Bank: 1 JPY = 0.388226 PHP

The difference is only 0.001026 PHP/ 1 JPY

I know that this can get confusing so I'm including a sample computation:
Btw, the machine would ask you if you're withdrawing in Yen rate or in PHP rate. This computation is for when you choose Yen rate.

Ex: You withdrew 50,000.00 Yen using a Mastercard Debit Card.

ATM Withdrawal Charge: 500 JPY/ 194.11300 PHP

50,000 Yen * 0.388226 PHP = 19,411.3 PHP
Plus  194.11300 for the ATM Withdrawal Charge

Total amount debited in your card: 19, 605.413 PHP

Actual Yen Rate that day: 19,360.00 PHP

Difference including card withdrawal charge:
245.413 PHP.

I don't know where else can you get an exchange rate better than this.

You can leave a message or a comment if this isn't clear enough or if you have more questions 'cause we know that I'm not the best at explaining things. 😂😂

For those who've known about 7-11 machines, is it the same rate for all the atm across Japan?

3. There are several options in going to Tokyo. The price and length of travel varies depending on the transportation but we chose Skyliner Express.

It's more expensive but it has the shortest travel time of 41 minutes. Reserving online is cheaper than purchasing on site.

Purchase Yours Here: Klook Link Tokyo Skyliner Ticket (Narita to Ueno)

We would've ridden the regular train if the arrival schedule of the flight was earlier but we decided not to take the risk 'cause we have to arrive at Ueno Station before the subway stops operation for that day. Taxi prices are high and we wanted to make sure we don't pay for that.

If the ticket says that your departure time is 21:33 then don't ride the train that arrives at 21:29 'cause it is not yours yet. Several trains bound for several locations use the same platform so it can get confusing at first.

Always remember that trains are usually on time so arriving too early wouldn't make a difference because it follows a schedule but arriving 2 minutes after the schedule would likely mean that you've missed your train.

Skyliner is a reserved seating train. There's an area where you can place large luggage. Ours wasn't big so we took it with us on the seat.

Japan 2019: How to Claim and Use JR Pass in Fukuoka, Japan

Arrived 22:18 in Ueno Station and we were able to purchase subway ticket bound for our hotel at 22:29.

Still hoping for the day when commuting in Manila is this efficient.

WELCOME TO JAPAN!

During our walk to our hotel, we immediately noticed the Tokyo Skytree.😍😍😍 We decided to check in this area rather than the more famous areas like Asakusa, Shinjuku, Shibuya because we wanted the peace and quiet and to be away from Tokyo crowd at night. Lol. Hahaha! We moved to another hotel in Ginza though but that's for another post.

After checking in our hotel and putting down our stuff, we went to the closest 7-11 branch to buy our dinner/midnight snack.

And here ends the first night of one of the best trips we've ever taken... :))

Benton Airfit UV Defense Sun Cream

SPF 50
PA++++
Satin Finish
No whitecast
For all skin types

This product has a mint colored tube as a packaging and the product itself is also of that color.

This is my go-to sunscreen for whenever I like an "aromotherapy morning." This has an herbal minty scent but all natural because it has rosemary essential oil as an ingredient. The scent is quite strong - you'd smell it as soon as you squeeze the product out of the tube but it doesn't linger and disappears as you apply it on the skin. I was intending to pair this with Benton's Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel but a few applications later, I decided to use it on its own since it's already moisturizing so I don't have to use moisturizer anymore. It's light and not sticky. Glides effortlessly and easily spread on the skin.

For those with oily skin types like me, it kind of looks dewy but it was able to control the oiliness of my face for a few hours even during a hot day. For those with dry skin types, this will leave a dewy satin finish. I am able to reapply this product as well. It doesn't feel sticky as long as I use an oil control film beforehand.

Some products with essential oil irritate my skin and I feel a stinging sensation but I didn't experience that with Benton Airfit Defense Sun Cream. For people with sensitive skin and sensitive nose, however, the minty feeling and scent can be off putting.

Everything, in time. 💖
