Aside from the Angkor Wat and Ta Phrom, I've already forgotten the names of the other temples and I don't want to research about them now so I'll just put everything I know and experienced here from that one day trip around the temples of Siem Reap.

We have booked a service the day before and since the main reason why people go to Cambodia is to visit these temples, you'd have everyone offer you tours. The best choice you have is finding a good hotel 'cause they definitely have a reliable contact there.

Above is the rate for the one day entry pass to the temples - it's 37 USD per person in 2017. You'd have your photo ID taken here and then printed out on the pass which you'll be showing to the temple guards before entering.

We arrived here before sunrise. We already ate breakfast since it was prepared as a takeaway by the hotel staff. It was cloudy so we didn't witness the best sunrise you can experience in Angkor Wat. You know that sunrise when the sun kinda looks like it's rising from the temple. Beautiful.

The experience was beautiful nonetheless. Not everyday you get to watch sunrise from this place eh.

We walked around the temple temple area and it feels like entering a fantasy world tbh. It was magnificent plus the fact that they are thousand years of age (12th century) make this visit very memorable. I like visiting places that are declared as a UNESCO World Heritage site. For the Philippines, I think I have three I haven't visited yet.

We went there on a perfect day weather-wise. It was nice touring around the temples and seeing people of different nationalities. Ito na ata 'yung lugar na napakaraming tourists, as in halos tourists lang makikita mo everywhere.

During the fall of Khmer Empire, the temples were neglected. They were re-discovered years after and to this day (Sige, nung 2017) rehabilitation on parts were still on going. But I've said, they rely heavily on Tourism (third largest sector) as foreign tourists arrival has been growing every year so they maintain the temples now.

Ganda sa pictures, infairness.

Despite the number of tourists, the entire complex is huge so you won't see a lot of people walking with you unless you decide to form lines going up the viewing areas.

We stopped for a bit to take photos at this bridge. For people who like to explore on their own, with caution they can rent motorcycles that they can use for the entire day. I'm not sure how that goes but yea, I've seen foreigners with their motorbikes.

Don't remember which temple are the photos taken from 'cause I have all the photos of Cambodia mixed up in my backlogs and I'm too lazy to look for the Cambodia folder in my hard drive. Pretty sure you'll see these anyway when you go there.

Thousands of years later, the sculptures in the whole temple area are still beautiful.

Taray ng pictures, diba para kang nasa set ng movie but most importantly, ang amazing isipin na 'tong mga lugar na 'to e 12th century pa ginawa tapos sa ibang bansa pa saka at one point of my life e napuntahan ko.

"But today, tomorrow, and the day after next, I’ve chosen to see the road ahead as a promise of hope and of possibility. And I’m going to trust that path—wherever it may lead. I know that my Father will lead me, and I know that wherever I am is where I’m meant to be. I know that there is so much that lies right outside my realm of control and comfort zone, and I’m choosing to embrace all those things with a smile on my face."

Wear comfortable clothes when visiting this place 'cause it's huge and you have to walk a lot.

At first, the experience we had after this temple run made us dislike Cambodia but upon seeing these photos and the photos from Pub Street, it was not bad afterall. Sobrang hirap lang din kasi alalahanin ng Cambodia without thinking of Tonle Sap. AHAHHA! But for the Temple experience, definitely worth it!

I think the picture above was taken at the temple where they shot the movie Tomb Raider - Ta Phrom. The most distinctive feature of this place are the huge trees and roots growing out of the walls. It's like nature was trying to redeem the entire place but then they just decided co-exist.

We were taking photos then someone approached us and told us that he can help us take photos. He took pretty nice photos 'cause he knew the photo spots just that I've no copy of the photos in my laptop anymore so I'm not able to post everything.  Btw, we gave the guy a tip 'cause it looked like it was his livelihood.

Snippets of those days I spent walking around the Old City Wall of Chiang Mai, Thailand.

"...Chiang Mai represents the prime diamond on the crown of Thailand, the crown cannot be sparkle and beauteous without the diamond..."

— King Rama V, 12 August 1883

Walking in one of my dream places. ðŸ’–💖💖 This trip was indeed nothing but pure solitude (state of being alone without being lonely).

I fell in love with the way I was quiet and how was I all alone because during that time my intuition voice became louder and I was able to call myself home.

I contemplated whether or not I'd hire a guide to tour me around the Old City Wall so I can maximize the time and have someone explain to me the places of interest. I decided not to though because my anti-social side didn't want to have someone to talk with so I just walked around on my own.

These photos below are from the afternoons and nights that I spent there. Kasi arte arte ko pa. Wala tuloy akong alam na history. HAHAHA! Nag search lang ako para naman may silbi 'to.

There are over 300 temples in Chiang Mai alone.

Tourists would usually choose the temples that pique their curiosity. I, however, chose temples that were near my hostel. Well, just for this walk though 'cause I joined group tours some of which I have blogged about before already.

Thailand Posts Link: here.

Wat Chedi Luang

Used to be Chiang Mai's tallest structure during the Kingdom of Lanna. It was likely damaged by an earthquake and a cannon fire by the Burmese when they were retaking the city.

This is actually my favorite temple in Chiang Mai Old City not only because of its history but because this place has programs called "Monk Chats Club" and "Meditation Retreat" for if you want to continue after the Monk Chat.

I was told that the purpose is allow monks to improve their English-speaking skills while conversing with foreigners and in return, the foreigners/visitors are able to learn more about Thai Culture, Monk's Life and/or life philosophies related to Buddhism. Having a monk to talk about these things was kind of healing and eye-opening. Kinikilig-kilig pa nga ko nun kasi kailan pa ba ko makikipag-usap sa monk ulit? Feeling at literal na once in a lifetime experience... though syempre, umaasa rin na sana hindi.

My greatest takeaway from that conversation is learning about Anicca/Anitya/Impermanence - nothing lasts, everything is in constant state of change. It's still a struggle for me (tao lang po! HAHA) but having a conversation with a monk to look back on gives me peace and adds more appreciation to life.

Why? 'Cause sad and happy moments in life both don't last. Nakakatakot man isipin na hindi tatagal 'yung saya na nararamdaman mo pero kung dumating 'yung pagkakataon na yakapin ka ng lungkot... diba, nakakatuwa isipin na hindi rin 'yon magtatagal?

I'm definitely in a higher vibration now compared to how I felt a few months ago when my world came crashing down. HAHAHA! Feeling namin, sabay kami nag level-up sa buhay. HAHAHA! Well, technically lost pa rin naman ako ngayon pero natanggap ko na. Acceptance is the first step, diba? HAHAHAHAHA!

Walang naging mali sa'kin. Inayos ko dati - I did the things and decisions that I thought were best for me.
Hindi ko kasalanan na nawala lahat ng hawak ko. Hindi ko kasalanan na may COVID.
Pinakamahalaga ngayon? Nagsisimula at aayusin ulit.
HAHAHAHA! Dami ko namang HAHAHA!

"... If I were to go back and relive it differently, I wouldn't be me. And I like me."

May I's 2020 - My acceptance and moving on.

Wat Inthakin - Black Temple at the side of the road

This caught my attention so I had to go nearer to check if this was indeed a temple or not. Definitely unique 'cause unlike other temples which have outer walls, this is just there at the side of the road.

This was the second day that I walked around in Chiang Mai.

There was a night market so I decided to look around for souvenirs and dinner. This was the only time I went out of the Old City Wall towards a place I don't even know. HAHAHA! Sinundan ko lang talaga 'yung mga tao at mga tindahan tapos kung saan-saan na ko napadpad.

I don't know what was happening but I went in 'cause there was a program. Naki-chismis lang pero wala rin naman akong napala kasi hindi ko naintindihan kung ano nangyayari.

The (night) market experiences are one of the things I miss. I am not the type of traveler who would go to crowded places but I love night markets so I put up with the crowd. Ngayon, ang sarap sabihin na gagawin ko po lahat makapaglakad lang ulit sa crowd ng hindi kakabahan kung may COVID. HAHAHA! Haaaaaay, the things we took for granted talaga.

MY FAVORITE NIGHT MARKET IN THE WORLD: BAGUIO NIGHT MARKET (ukay-ukay!, chicken skin, balut, isaw!!!! HAHAHA! Pakshet. Baguio days na supposedly eh.)

Ximending Night Market, Taipei, Taiwan
BIFF and Nampo Area Night Market, Busan, South Korea
Myeongdong Night Market, Seoul, South Korea
Chinatown Night Market, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

My favorite food to grab before going back to the hotel: Kanom Krok/Thai Coconut Pancakes

For my birthday this year, I decided to go to Thailand for a 10 days tour of Bangkok and Northern Thailand specifically Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.

Chiang Mai has always been in my bucketlist because of the elephant encounter so out of all the things I did and place I visited, that was the non-negotiable item in my list.

On my first day, I just walked around Bangkok after settling in. I met up with two of my elementary teachers and they brought me to Baiyoke Sky Hotel in Pratunam to eat dinner on the 81st floor.

Bangkok traffic can get really congested. I experienced standing in the bus aisle for more than 50 minutes when I came from Chiang Rai since there isn't an MRT connection yet from Don Mueang Airport.

This part is a revolving viewing deck area with a LED billboard in the middle which explains the color reflection on the picture above.

Baiyoke experience is much like Macau Tower link: here. Only, there are no bungee jumps here in Bangkok.

I bought sim card so I'd have an internet access on the 10 days that I'll be staying there because it will be difficult, extremely difficult without. I rode a bus to the grand palace vicinity but I went down the bus on a wrong stop and it was still far from the palace so I just followed Google map and walked around.

This was the first temple I visited in Thailand. AT MY GHAD!!!! Sobrang nalula ako. I don't know if it's obvious in this picture but this temple was humongous.

Above is the wall of the Grand Palace.

I decided not to enter. Probably save it for my return to Thailand tho.

I chose to visit Wat Pho instead of Grand Palace which is just across the street. Actually, if you're into these kind of things, you may actually spend like an entire day walking around all the palaces, temples, and buildings in this area.

This Reclining Buddha is the main reason why I chose to visit Wat Pho instead of the Grand Palace.

Free bottle of water in Wat Pho.

I decided not to ride a bus and instead just walk around and I reached this Giant Swing. This was constructed in 1784 under the reign of King Rama I and was used in an old Brahmin ceremony. It kinda has a similar appearance to the Torii Gates of Japan.

I stopped by at this cafe to eat snacks. A bread toast with chocolate spread and a matcha drink.

We rode the boat but we opted for the boat that literally just crosses the river. Mahal pa mag river cruise eh, ganun din naman. :))

Travelling solo deadma na lang sa mga mag jowa sa paligid nyahaha

I spent three hours waiting for the bus from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai since I didn't reserve online... turned out that I just spent the entire day travelling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai... nag plane pa ko e kasing tagal din naman pala ng overnight bus 'yung travel time. Hahaha!

Choose to purchase your bus tickets online because the bus from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai (v.v) gets sold out fast.

My hostel in Chiang Rai also operates a travel agency so I just booked the tours from the hostel's owner mainly because the packages still fit my budget and I didn't want to tour and travel alone since it was raining everyday when I was there.

Monks in Bhubing Palace

Women are not supposed to go near the monks especially touch them and I was very wary especially if I come across some lol only to find out that they have a sit down/chat session in one of the temples in Old City, Chiang Mai.

For Bhubing Palace in Chiang Mai, I joined a group of Chinese Tourists and one of them really want to walk around so he invited me to go with him. Almost all the people in our group went back to the van after seeing the palace but we walked farther up and reached this water reservoir and a place overlooking the low lying clouds. <3

After Bhubing Palace, we drove to Doi Suthep Temple. I've had this places to visit in mind since I see this posted whenever I look up Chiang Mai in Instagram and in Google. There's a lift but you may also get to the temple using the staircase.

If you can, go here on your own and make sure to go early since this place gets packed so bad that's the next best thing you can do is beat the crowd, especially the tourist buses.

This is a place overlooking Chiang Mai city but because of the rain, the view was blocked by clouds. Loved it as well but overlooking view would've been much better. lol.

Bhubing Palace and Doi Suthep tour is only a half-day tour in the morning so I had the whole afternoon to explore. My hotel was in Chiang Mai's Old City, very similar to our Intramuros, only theirs is square. I had to walk around and follow the Google map directions since I looked for a money exchange counter with best rates. I found one Superrich outside the old city and it has the best exchange rate I saw in all the places in Bangkok, Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai that I've been too.

The entire afternoon, I spent visiting temples and drinking milk tea. In Chiang Mai alone, there are more than 300 temples which are unique but you know, after visiting 10 per day, you'd probably have your Thai Temple overdose already. Haha! I think if I had more days there, I would've opted for what they call, "happiness workshop" facilitated by the monks.

Being the only non-negotiable item on my list, I had my trip to the elephant sanctuary reserved even before I left the Philippines. It was 2,500 THB for a whole day tour and it was the most expensive activity that I did when I was in Thailand. I was actually having second thoughts regarding this 'cause a part of me wanted to save money and opt for the cheaper ones and yet a part of me didn't want to patronize "sanctuaries" that mistreat animals. I'm very glad I visited this sanctuary though. I reserved the Saddle Off Program from Elephant Nature Park's website.

When I went back to the hostel from the elephant sanctuary, the owner told me that there's a nearby Saturday Night Market so even if I was so tired already, I decided to walk outside.

I wanted to look for this temple since the silver looks so good but I gave up only to reach it still while randomly walking that night. <3 There was an activity so I participated for a while.

When travelling alone, you'd know what it is that you're most inclined to do. I used to answer both whenever people ask me which I like more...but because of this trip, it's MOUNTAINS. SURE NA :))) I don't care if I didn't see Phuket's beach on this trip but mountains?! There's no way I am not going to hike the tallest mountain in Thailand. lol. :))

Mossy forest trail.  <3

I exited Mai Sai, Thailand and entered Tachilek, Myanmar... so technically, I was able to visit two countries on this trip since I had Myanmar entry and exit stamps as well. Because of that, this place is infamous for the visa runs of people wanting to get more legal days of stay in Thailand since walking through the border gives you another 30 days (Philippine Passport Holders)

You can't, however, pass beyond Tachileik, Myanmar if you're in this area. So land crossing from this part to other parts of Myanmar is not possible.

After staying in Thailand for seven days and suddenly change country in just 5 minutes, I immediately noticed the different atmosphere and "aura" of people who were walking there with me. It kind of felt stuffy in Myanmar. I felt very uneasy walking around there compared to Thailand where it felt like home. But the whole border ordeal could've been worse. Really. I'm just glad I'm fine.

As soon as I went back to the hostel that night, I was chatting with my friend and she told me the possible reasons why it might have felt like that. Haaaay, at least may Myanmar visa stamp na. Hehehe. :))

Mai Sai

The Northernmost  Town/City of Thailand.

This place was busy and felt much like the border of Macau and Zhuhai China. It has a lot of money changer, stores, etc.

Three countries in one afternoon. <3

I figured that the places near borders aren't usually the cleanest and well-maintained part of the country but I'm still glad that I was able to go here. I mean, when else will I be able to be in "three countries at once"?? HAHAHA
