First Time in Japan: Northern Kyushu Itinerary, Expenses and Travel Tips (From Hakata in Fukuoka)

Day 1 was a bit stressful 'cause we weren't able to get a ride from Hakata to Yufuin so we had to reverse our itinerary... the reason why Yufuin was non-negotiable since it has Telato Gelato which is, to be honest, my dream come true as a matcha lover!! hahaha!

After Yufuin Floral Village and Kinrin Lake, we looked for the different food we can try though we already had two in mind - a matcha gelato and a Japanese cheesecake in a cup.

This store, though, was temptation in all its forms and sizes. I had a difficulty restraining myself from buying everything because all the products looked delicious... 'cause well, they're matcha for crying out loud.

After the green tea factory, we looked for milch for their cheesecake in a cup. And oh boy, I wish they had it in bigger cups!! hahaha!

While they have other desserts available, we only ordered the cheesecake worth 150 Yen.

And from that moment onwards, I didn't want to try other cheese tarts that are being sold here in the Philippines 'cause this one is definitely one of the best - well-balanced flavor and something that you'd like to eat and eat and eat more of.

After the cheesecake, we stopped by my dream gelato place which was on the way to the Yufuin train station.

This is just a small shop with a few seats that's why most people just have theirs on the go but we decided to sit down and it slowly. haha! There are a lot of levels to choose from and I chose the highest.

Huhuhu! It seemed like only yesterday when I told myself that I'm gonna find this store and here I am posting about it now. <3

Mt. Yufu

If you're arriving in Yufuin and want to take Yufuin No Mori back to Hakata, you'd have no choice but to reserve tickets. It's best to reserve upon arrival 'cause some time slots can get sold out pretty fast.

The best train that we rode at during the Japan trip. No wonder it's a reserved-only kind of train.  The wooden flooring and green seats are to designed to reflect the relaxing nature of Yufuin.

Aside from the quaint interior of this train, there's also a photo service which you're going to hold a cardboard of Yufuin No Mori. Nice commemorative photo if you ask me.

First Time in Japan: Northern Kyushu Itinerary, Expenses and Travel Tips (From Hakata in Fukuoka)

Japan trip wouldn't be complete without eating sashimi and sushi, of course. On our last day, we were looking for an eat-all-you-can restaurant but we weren't able to find one so we ate our then last meal in Japan here in Uobei.

I love Genki Sushi here in the Philippines so upon knowing that they are under the same company, I didn't have hesitation and we immediately got our number.

Compared to the table seating arrangement here in PH, the one in Japan is on the counter so the order tablet is also per person. Not bad.

WHAT I LIKED THE MOST IS THAT MOST OF THE PLATES WERE ONLY 108 YEN EACH. Half the price of those being served here... for 1,000 Yen it felt as though we also ate at an eat-all-you-can.

SALMON for only 108 Yen. Huhuhu!

I wanted to eat more but I was too full already after eating nine plates of sushi. Weakshit?? hahaha!

Because I've already tried eating here in Uobei, Genki Sushi will never be the same!!!! Ang mahal dito but it's my go-to place whenever I'm craving for salmon sashimi. <3

From Hakata Station, transfer to Yodobashi Building and the food court where Uobei is on the fourth floor. Very easy to locate.

First Time in Japan: Northern Kyushu Itinerary, Expenses and Travel Tips (From Hakata in Fukuoka)

This is the closest mall to our hotel in Fukuoka (The Life Hostel and Bar Lounge). We didnt't have the time to walk around the mall nor the budget to shop aside from the things that we already allotted money for - Uniqlo, souvenir shops, and shoe salons are the only stores we entered here.

BOOK YOUR Ultimate Fukuoka Tour from Sunrise to Sunset HERE.

However, since the mall was nearby and on the way back to the hotel from Hakata Station, we went there twice just to watch the fountain show at night.

My friend, whom I traveled to Japan with, and I have a thing for water fountain shows - we've seen the one in Bellagio Hotel, Las Vegas and the one in Wynn Palace in Macau too.

Aside from the water fountain show, I liked the pastel colored lights of this fountains.

On the right side of the fountain were doraemon statues. Of course, we took pictures with it.

Doraemon was one of the shows that I enjoyed when I was younger. Those days na gigising ka ng maaga tuwing Saturday para manood ng TV at abangan si manong taho. haha!

SO SAAN NA TAYO NEXT, DORAEMON??

If you have a half day or a whole day to spend just leisurely walking at a park, I suggest that you try searching more about Olympic Park - it easily became my favorite park in Seoul because there are a lot of things to do and places to see here.

Above is the lone tree <3

I don't know but I was so excited to see this tree in person. lol. Dinayo ko pa talaga siya sa Korea. Hahaha!

South Korea Travel Sim? Purchase yours here.

I knew that the Lone Tree is in Olympic Park. The thing I didn't know was that Olympic Park was huge that we'll be walking and hiking a lot just to get to the tree.

Above is the location of the rose garden. No rose for my visit 'cause it was still winter.

This is a concert area where a lot of concerts are being held. Obviously. haha!

We didn't expect that the park will be this huge 'cause it looked small in the map but I think we spent an hour walking around the hilly part trying to locate the tree.

Once in a while, you'll see maps like this to guide you around all the must-see places in the park. Notice how far we were from the tree and we've already walked a lot when I took this photo.

I have no complains though 'cause this are what I always want to do. This Seoul trip was nice 'cause we spend a lot of time walking along trails even if we were experiencing freezing weather.

The thing with winter travel when it's not snowing is that days can get sunny yet the temperature is in a negative centigrade. I think the hottest weather that we experienced back then was 4 degrees and that was only an hour long while the coldest was -12 degrees (while waiting for Lee Min Ho)

I haven't posted it but we walked along the Namsan Trail and Naksan Trail as well.

While I appreciate the busyness and the stores of Myeongdong and other tourist places in Seoul, areas with no people like this in Olympic Park is what I always look forward to visiting.

We had to wait for several minutes until the other people taking photos are done with their "photoshoot" 'cause we wanted to be alone with the lone tree. I think the best time to go here is early in the morning.

<3

I first saw this place in 2 days, 1 night... how I miss watching that show... it's been a month since the last episode. Haaay. </3 everytime it crosses my mind, my heart breaks for the members and staffs. </3

O DIBA EMOTERA AHAHAHA

I don't have decent winter clothes despite being in Korea for the past two winters. hahahaha! Above, I was wearing 5 layers of clothing with one heat-tech and it was still freezing. Tiis lang talaga. :))

Okay so if your priority is the Lone Tree, it will be better to ride the subway until Mongchontoseong Station... Olympic Park station can be misleading since you have to walk for a long time just to get on this side.

If I'll be able to come back to Seoul during another season, I think I'll be allotting more time exploring this area of Seoul. I want to see all the tourist attractions that are identified in the park map and hopefully watch a concert there as well... Yes, EXO? hahaha!
