For Pa(w)ssion Project number 1: CGM Hair

Above is one of my favorite photos.
That one I use whenever I need to remind people that I've had long hair almost all my life... tinopak lang nung December 2017 pero hindi na ulit pinahaba for the past two years.

Taken during our trip to Sumilon Island, Cebu in February 2017.

Hair before cutting it short for CGM

10th month in CGM link: here.

I posted an update in September 'cause that was the anniversary of my introduction to this but I started November so for the process, this month is my anniversary.

Not a lot of people would be able to relate why seeing my hair improve because of CGM is a big deal to me and to the other ladies who are members of the group as well. There's a kilig feeling in learning to love and accept your insecurities. I hated my natural hair before especially whenever people tell me "Mahangin ba sa labas?" or "Pugad ng ibon ba buhok mo?" Sobrang kapal, haba at buhaghag kaya ang laki-laki tignan. Ngayon, work that hair volume, sis! 😂 Maganda naman kasi.

Photo collage of my face and hair per month for the past twelve months below so... ginagawa kasi talaga 'to nung mga members sa group kapag anniversary nila pero nahihiya nga ako. hahahahaha

November 2019

*First Haircut

I initially wanted a trim but I thought that I'd save on conditioner costs if I had shorter hair so I had it cut to shoulder length.

This month was the most challenging month, tbh. I needed to read the units for several times since they were really confusing for beginners. Anong s2c? low poo? protein? non-protein? 😅😅😅

Aside from not knowing which products work and don't work on my hair, I "needed" to purchase a lot of products and stuff that are CGA so initially - the switch was kinda magastos (more on this at the end of this post 'cause my current routine is simplified and budget-friendly na). Also after the final wash, you'd see the real state/health of your hair so iniisip ko pa dati pano kaya kung ipa-rebond ko na lang ulit? Parang hopeless na siya! Hahaha. I'm more than happy I stayed and documented the progress though. Selfie everyday. Oh, diba? 😂

December 2019

It got a lot worse before it got better.

Hair was unruly on most days but nothing a hairclip would fix. My rebonded hair was dyed so you'd see where the treated hair ends and where the natural hair begins. I was still not used to my hair looking like this so going out was making me conscious sometimes.

January 2020

You know the funny thing that I was overthinking that month?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Lower left photo was taken in Korea and my hair looked good and tamed in winter weather so it wasn't a problem but yeah, useless problem kasi 'yun na rin naman na 'yung last gala ko for 2020. HAHAHA! Hay nakoooo. The twists and turns of life talaga.

February 2020
*Second Haircut

I had the back part of my hair cut shorter because they're the most damaged but maintained the length of the front and side parts.

March 2020

HAAAAAAAY! HAHAHAHAHA!

Well, we all know the struggles of ECQ so this was the month when I didn't pay much attention to my hair - the documentation continued though. Start na rin 'to ng walang ayos days that continues until now.

Anong lipstick? bb cream? face powder? Uso pa ba 'yon? 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

April 2020

I've had good hair days but couldn't go out so that was a bummer. Although as you can see, hindi talaga ko curly everyday.

May 2020
All of a sudden, hair looked long.
Whenever I see it then, all I can think of was having a haircut.

June 2020

I was starting to go out again. The first time that I went out of the house since March. Going out back then, I didn't tie my hair and I also wore dangling earrings. HAHA! Soon, I read somewhere that it's safer to go out in a bun so after nito, lagi na lang akong nakatali at walang earrings.

July 2020
*Third Haircut

I slept at a friend's house and a hairstylist came so I had him cut my hair as well - back to shoulder length but I failed to mention that I wanted a layered haircut so alam mo na... :))) Kailangan ng isa pa.

August 2020

This was the month when I was frequently going out again. You'd notice that compare to the curl pattern that I've had in July, the curls were looser in August since tying the hair up in a bun stretches the curl pattern.

September 2020
*Fourth Haircut

The two photos above are taken on a very rare good hair day. :)))

October 2020

I think it's more proper to say now that I am amazed at how my hair looks different every single day. And what's more amazing? During those days when it looks so unkempt and frizzy, I couldn't care less.

November 2020

I still don't even know what it wants and what it's going to be every wash day - curly, wavy, straight, buhaghag, bahala na siya sa buhay niya.
HAHAHAHAHA. ANO NA, GHURL.

My hair today.
11/06/20
Kaya ngayon ko 'to ginawa kasi good hair day. ❤️

All I know is that I'm happy that I joined CGM a year ago 'cause I think more than my hair health improving, it's my appreciation and acceptance of my natural hair that matters the most - kahit good or bad hair day pa 'yan. I won't be posting a CGM update as frequent as I do now since wala naman na talaga kong masabi after the 10th month update but I documented my hair for the whole year for this post so tinuloy ko pa rin. I might pala after six months or whenever the growth is noticeable already.

It will take me a year or two or more to grow my hair back to this length. I don't even know if I'll be comfortable in having hair this long again but I really want to give it a try.

Okay, Tintin.
Long wavy black hair tayo in a year or two. Huwag kang magpapa-tempt sa drastic haircut and hair color muna! Be patienttttttt. HAHAHA!

All of the products above are CGA.
You may not know the terms if you're not familiar with CGM.

Co-wash - Johnson's Active Kids Conditioner (Protein)
Low Poo - HHN Mandarin Shampoo (Protein Free)
S2C - Suave's Cherry Blossom or Waterfall Mist (Protein Free)
Deep Con - Keraplus (Protein) I hope they manufacture a bigger size.
Leave On - HHN Vanilla Conditioner (Protein Free)

I don't use stylers 'cause I find them sticky. I rinse all the products after S2C and I apply a little bit of HHN Vanilla Conditioner mixed with water as a leave on after wet plopping.

Now, going back on my first month in CGM, my current routine isn't expensive and time-consuming. I stopped wanting to try new products since these are working sa'kin. Ngayon, mas matipid na 'yung routine compared to how I was with hair products before I did CGM.

SARREH NA AGAD TALAGA. HAHAHAHA!
Pano kasi mapapakita 'yung hair kung wala akong face, diba?

Right pic was taken a day after my fourth haircut in a span of ten months.

Impulsive haircut last July link: here.

Pansin mo? 😂😂😂
Walang makakapigil eh. I wasn't satisfied with my last haircut because I wanted my hair to be layered so I waited seven weeks and had it cut again. HAHAHA! My friend who's also a member of the group because her daughter has curly hair keeps on telling me, "Tin, kalmahan mo lang. Baka sumobra sa iksi." Alam niyang mapilit ako kapag may nagustuhan/na-tripan as in ginagawa ko talaga kahit ano mangyari.

Anyway,

November 2019 and September 2020

Shemay, one year na since nagkita kami ng BB ko na naging dahilan bakit ako nawalan ng budget pang rebond.

Park Seo Joon Fun Meet link: here.

I started this CGM journey without an idea on how my hair would look like several months down the road. Never did I imagine that I'd have this kind of curl pattern on some days. I just wanted my hair to be healthy so I can finally stop the rebond treatment that I do annually.

Hahaha!

I don't have a curly/wavy hair growing up. My hair was naturally straight and jet black. My hair was beautiful (in my memory HAHAHA!) but I got curious about the salon treatments and different hairstyles and that was the start of the damages that my hair had experienced for maybe around 15 years now. I'll look for photos from third grade and I'll post it in November for my first "curlversary."

All of the products above are CGA.

CGM can be thrifty or expensive depending on your budget. Some people use less products, some use more.

Updated Skincare and CGM Products (My HG's)

First day after my layered haircut.
Gulat na gulat?! 😂😂😂

Every wash day is a surprise since I joined Curly Girls Philippines. I'm not strict with the way my hair is styled - s2c, wet plopping and air-dry lagi lang. I used to be so cautious with the steps but that didn't even lasted a month.

Routines like this are supposed to be fun not stressful.

My hair is still damp in the picture above. I initially thought that it won't be a curly hair day for me but as soon as it completely dried, good hair day pala.

Shrinkage is real.
I'm satisfied with the way it looks, 'yung nasa baba lang ang curls/waves. ❤️

On a good hair day, some people think that I use hot tools or had it permed at a salon pero hindi pooooo, that's just the way my hair air-dried. Iba- iba siya everyday 🤦🏻‍♀️ Katuwa nga 'tong CGM kasi it taught me to appreciate my hair and all the frizz that comes with it.

Trust the process. ❤️

HAHAHAHAHA!
SHORT HAIR AKO PALA.
Last haircut na muna 'to, magpapahaba na.
Or isa pa ata ulit na haircut. NYAHAHAHA.

I've been going out again since July and this is how I look usually.
Sabi kasi ni Doc (The Skin Sensei at Twitter), tie hair and don't wear dangling earrings muna para ma-lessen 'yung pwedeng kapitan ng virus. Kaya ayan. haha! Aba, masunurin naman pala 'to. ☺️ I also bought satin facemasks because I read somewhere that it lessens the irritation (maskne) and so far, I think it helped pero meron pa rin sa chin area ko na tumutubo everytime matagal naka-face mask.

Another CGM Update:
Day after the third haircut  | Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Not a lot of people would be able to relate why seeing my hair improve because of CGM is a big deal to me and to the other ladies who are members of the group as well. There's a kilig feeling in learning to love and accept your insecurities. I hated my natural hair before especially whenever people tell me "Mahangin ba sa labas?" or "Pugad ng ibon ba buhok mo?" Sobrang kapal, haba at buhaghag kaya ang laki-laki tignan. Ngayon, work that hair volume, sis! 😂 Maganda naman kasi. I'm a silent reader in CGP at dito lang ako naga-update pero I'm thankful for that group. Nakaka-empower 'yung level ng suporta. 🥰

It's okay to be unique. ❤️
It's beautiful to be different. ❤️
It's okay not to be okay. ❤️
Yes, kim soo hyun? HAHAHAHA CHAR. Gusto mo 'yon? Naisingit ko pa. 😂

I didn't spend a lot of time taking care of my hair. Hence, the annual rebond para isang treatment na lang tapos good hair days ng matagal. 😂 Pero ngayon, there's a newly found appreciation even if it doesn't look perfect. Actually, appreciation for everything that is unique in me.

💁🏻‍♀️💁🏻‍♀️💁🏻‍♀️
HAHAHAHA. WAR FREAK PALA.

This is an updated skincare routine/products list 'cause I've been asked a couple of times already. The first one I made was in 2012 and then updated it in 2017.

2012 and 2017 - Products used for skincare routine + travel essentials.

My Skin: Sensitive, Oily but can be dry and flaky when I'm out of the country especially during winter

Ingredients my skin has had negative reactions to: Essential Oils (especially tea tree oil), silicone, ceramides (too heavy), ferments, and vitamin C.

Note: May autofilter/blurring 'yung phone camera ko. HAHAHA! I'm thankful and kilig to those who notice that my skin's looking good and healthy. Sulit naman pala lahat ng gastos! Char! HAHA!

Anyway, I stopped using DIY products on my face. I stopped obsessing over my visible pores (kaya wala na kong pore fillers/primers) and have accepted that pores and textured skin are normal. I like doing my skincare routine for prevention because as I've mentioned, my skin is sensitive and I develop acne often.

Reddit's r/AsianBeauty and r/SkincareAddiction are good sources if you don't know where to start. I also follow board certified doctors/dermatologists in Twitter such as The Skin Sensei and The Nerdy Derma. In Instagram, I enjoy the contents of SkinChemy.

I can't decide which is the best way to present the products that I use so the photos can be a bit confusing. Also, please note that most items below are either Korean or Japanese products. Why? All of these can be purchased here in PH though. 😆

You may purchase skincare products here: Althea Korea - They ship from South Korea. 😍

FACE:

AM Routine: (Pandemic)

Cleanser
Toner (this is not a necessary step according to some but I like it in mine)
Moisturizer
Sunscreen

Oil Blotting Paper and Lip Balm with SPF

A good cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen are all you need for a proper skincare routine. But if you want to add more steps to target specific skin concerns, you may. I decided to stick with the basic because my skin doesn't like it either when I put a lot of products for my AM routine but I spot treat for PM. Although I'm looking forward to purchasing The Ordinary's Niacinamide (to help fade acne scars) and Caffeine Solution (eye cream) pala but they're kinda pricey so I'm still reading reviews about them.

PM Routine: (Pandemic)

Cleansing Oil
Gel Cleanser
Toner
Spot Treatment
BHA
Moisturizer
Lip Balm

I've been using Innisfree's Green Tea Foam Cleanser for years - gusto ko lang kasi green tea. I bought Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser last January but I didn't like it then because of the strong tea tree fragrance.

During my acne breakout because of wearing face masks, I researched about it and read somewhere that cleansers with Salicylic Acid may help lessen the inflammation. So I decided to use COSRX on days when I wear face mask, and Innisfree when I don't.

I won't be repurchasing this gel cleanser but I'll try Hada Labo's Japanese Green Tea Extract Facial Wash (kasi nga green tea) or Senka's Perfect Whip Acne Care.

I wash my face two to four times a day - when I wake up (Dove bar), shower (Dove bar), remove sunscreen kasi we dance zumba almost every night kaya I remove my sunscreen before that. HAHAHA! (oil + foam cleanser), shower especially pag pawis (Dove bar). This might be too much for some especially for those with dry skin but works for me.

I'm not particular with Cleansing Oils because it doesn't stay on my face for too long anyway. I just want something that emulsifies well and has a large volume 'cause of the cost. P 300.00 ata 'yang 500 ML na Cleansing Oil sa Don Quijote nung nasa Fukuoka kami. Almost a year of use pero hindi ko pa naubos.

Cleansing Oils are essentials 'cause I do the double cleansing method to properly remove the sunscreen at night.

Aside from the AM Routine, I used to put BB Cream, face powder, and lipsticks back when face masks aren't the normal yet. 'Yan na ko everyday pag lumalabas dati with earrings pala. Hehe

Above is my pandemic travel essentials

I no longer wear lipsticks, bb cream, and face powder to prevent breakouts.

Once a week, above is my PM Routine because I put clay mask on my face.

Adapted from Fiddy Snail's Skin Gritting Method. I decided not to purchase a BHA essence yet and just use Two In One Poreless Power Liquid kasi may BHA din naman. Ubusin ko muna 'to.

Method: BHA - Clay Mask - Oil Cleanser

While I don't like using sachets, I have no choice because the regular size of the Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask 2X dry fast so I'm not able to maximize the product in the jar - natutuyo na bago ko pa maubos. That pink Ampoule is a Sleeping Mask. I bought on a whim in Korea but I won't repurchase. I don't think I need sleeping masks na, dinadamihan ko na lang nung Balancing Lotion kung kakatapos lang mag exfoliate.

When I wash my face in the morning, I alternate these three products kasi inuubos ko lang. Haha!

Celeteque Hydration is a good gel based moisturizer and it's from a local brand. If you're not used to applying products on your face but wants to start putting moisturizer, okay 'yan. Parang tubig lang at hindi malagkit. Also, it retails at around 200 php for a 100 ML container kaya pwedeng pwede na. HAHAHA. ADIK?!

Might repurchase Hada Labo's Premium Lotion though because I like the feel of it when I put it on my face.

Sunscreens!

Biore Watery Gel was my Holy Grail for years. It is easy to purchase here in PH and it does the job. Saka, ang mura niya kasi sa Japan, halos kalahati ata presyo kaya nag bulk buying na ko last year. 😂 However, I discovered
Nivea Sun Super Water Gel which is cheaper and doesn't have a white cast as well so I'm sticking with it when I empty my Biore.

A'pieu Pure Block is my travel sunscreen. It's a bit oily (for PH) but perfect for when my skin is feeling dry because of the cold weather. I use it whenever I need to care of my dogs since this is water resistant. For daily use, I don't like it because it has a white cast

I don't reapply sunscreens. HAHA! Nakasanayan ko na lang din.

BODY:

Body scrub night usually kasabay nung clay mask.

Lotions after shower.

The bar I use to clean my face and body is Dove. Every after day shower, I use serum with SPF. I'm not into whitening products and I don't think Extra White Serum lightened my skin even after years of continuous use - hindi lang kasi malagkit 'yung serum at madalas mag buy one, take one.

I'm not particular with the lotion I use at night but so far, I'm loving those two from Nivea as well mainly because of the scents. HAHAHA! Looking forward to buying my night lotion from St. Ives kapag naubos 'yang dalawa. Meron kasi last time na nakasale P 200+ for 600 ML product na kaso naka-order na ko sa Nivea.

HAIR:

CGM UPDATE: 1, 2

Also, I use satin pillowcases when I sleep. I've had someone who noticed that I don't change pillow cases daw kasi laging red when I upload video chat screenshots/ photos sa My Day. Walang ganon, Mars! HAHAHA!

FRAGRANCES:

I love Bath And Body Works body mists.

Favorite is Japanese Cherry Blossom kaya may maliit.

And I just noticed this when I was taking the photos na ayon nga... hahaha! Itong tatlo 'yung scents that I like the most.

Water - Rose - Cherry Blossom

Hanami in Ohori Park, Fukuoka, Japan

Holy Grails
I've lost count on how many times I've repurchased the products above.

Innisfree's No Sebum Mineral Powder
Etude House's Wonder Pore Toner
Dove Beauty Bar (Dove Girl for more than a decade na!)
Pretty Secret's Oil Blotting Paper

Innisfree's Green Tea Balancing Lotion (face and neck moisturizer)
Nivea Body Serums with SPF
Benzac for Spot Treatment
Lucas Papaw
Innisfree Super Volcanic Clay Mask

Not in the photo set but I'm loving a lot these days: Laneige's Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry
