First Time in Japan: Northern Kyushu Itinerary, Expenses and Travel Tips (From Hakata in Fukuoka)

These two well-known historical places on this post were just walking distance from our hotel in Hakata. If you tour around Fukuoka on a budget, then these places are definitely one of those that you'd get to see. No entrance fee and since it's just walking distance from Hakata Station - no transportation fee either.

Kushida Shrine

There was a tour guide touring foreigners around when we went there and so we just stayed a bit close to the group so we could also hear what she was saying. lol.

The home of the protective God of Hakata built in the year 757.

This is a fortune paper that you can get in Kushida Shrine. Unlike the one in Dazaifu, they have English ones here so we gladly paid for it. I considered mine lucky so I still have it placed in my wallet until now.

At my back is called - Kazari Yamakaza or a large stationary festival float. This is made to pray for peace and wish for protection.

I wasn't sure which one was the gingko tree but it was said that there's a 1,000 gingko tree inside the temple grounds.

Tocho-ji Temple

Established in the year 806 and is the home to the largest wooden seated Buddha in all of Japan. We weren't able to see it though. The one thing that made our Japan tour difficult is, of course, the language gap. We were anxious for a lot of times while thinking if we were doing things right. lol. :)))

5 storey Pagoda of the temple. This was built in 2011 to commemorate the 1200th anniversary of the temple.

We only saw a few buds that day but if you're visiting on a peak time then you shouldn't miss Cherry Blossoms viewing at this temple as well because of the huge tree in the center. I can only imagine how grand it looks like when the sakura flowers are in full bloom.

First Time in Japan: Northern Kyushu Itinerary, Expenses and Travel Tips (From Hakata in Fukuoka)

Hanami is "flower viewing"

We gave up on seeing cherry blossoms for our trip but thankfully, there were some blooming sakura trees in Ohori Park... as in maipilit lang na may inabutan kaming cherry blossoms... :)))

Getting to the park was easy because there's a subway station near it (ohori ko-en station). We bought our breakfast from a nearby convenience store and looked for a bench beside the lake in Ohori Park where we ate at before walking around.

BOOK YOUR Ultimate Fukuoka Tour from Sunrise to Sunset HERE.

Ohori means "moat" in Japanese for this place once served as a moat for the nearby Fukuoka Castle.

Old men were feeding the birds and it was fun watching them.

This bridge will lead you to an island and a pavilion on the lake.

We walked around the park and then we spotted several small cherry blossom trees which were filled with blooming flowers. :))))  So happy!

HAHAHAHA.
Ito 'yung totoong maipilit lang eh. :))

expectation vs. reality but still breathtaking <3

First time seeing a real cherry blossom tree and it's so beautiful that you'd think it's not real.

Crossing out items on my bucketlist one at a time. I've always wanted to see this tree in person and not only did I see some in Japan this year, I also saw a different kind of cherry blossom tree when I was in NYC.

Feel na feel ang selfie, e noh. Kala mo talaga madami. :)))

I don't remember my face being that clear and smooth but yeah, my face kinda liked the cool weather of Spring and Autumn. I don't even put powder to set my bb cream whenever I travel in colder places - sa Pilipinas, good luck. Makalimutan mo na lahat wag lang pulbos :))

KABOGERA 'yung selfie from this tree.

Well, make it work nga 'di ba. Won't complain 'cause we were giving up on the whole cherry blossom viewing that time already - thank the heavens for the early bloomers of Ohori! I wasn't able to take a photos but there were several food trucks in the area as well. We bought takoyaki which we brought to the next park where we ate at.

First Time in Japan: Northern Kyushu Itinerary, Expenses and Travel Tips (From Hakata in Fukuoka)

We took our time sipping our frappucinos in Starbucks, Dazaifu that we didn't notice that there was no one around anymore. It was only when we headed out the establishment did we realize that the bustling street earlier that day has become a street filled with closed shops even before sunset so we were surprised.

We went back to Hakata Station and our hotel to rest for a bit before heading out again and some shopping at the nearest Don Quijote Shop (donki).

The Life Hostel and Bar Lounge (accommodation) link: here.

This branch was only walking distance from were we stayed in Fukuoka. I was kinda ready for matcha shopping 'cause I've added it in my budget beforehand or so I thought I did...

I didn't expect it to be this bad though... or should I say this tempting. I was overwhelmed with all the matcha snack/choices and that I ended up buying a lot more than what I was planning to.

They have this whole shelf dedicated to matcha products and these aren't everything they have - there were more choices as we walked around the whole store. This branch isn't as huge as branches but  I had a difficult time choosing which ones to purchase already. Imagine going to a three-storey Tokyo branch...

The other thing that would make you want to buy more is because the items here are cheaper.. just look at the matcha kitkat that costs 298 Yen. Convert that to PHP then it'd be something around 150.00 and you'd still be able to minus the amount of tax in your purchase. And of course, since it was so enticing to buy stuff there I bought a lot more aside from the matcha goodies.

Lots of kitkat options. <3

Photos below are some of many things you can buy in Donki. It's a one stop shop of just about anything (even clothing and luxury bags and watches) so beware if you're impulsive like me 'cause you might definitely go out of budget. My matcha hoarding tendencies won while I was out here shopping considering that I don't shop that much whenever I go out of the country. HAHAHAHAHA.

I've always loved meiji products and I've hoarded them as well especially meltykiss matcha and those chocolate covered macadamias. Half of the price when sold here in the Philippines!!

There were a lot of other tourists shopping and the aisle can get a little bit cramped because of the volume of shoppers. Nonetheless, the only time we queued on a line was when we were claiming the tax refund. For the rest of the experience, it was fine and costly. lol.

Fight For My Way Namil Bar Location

Namil Bar is another "Fight For My Way" Shooting Location in Busan.

I was able to visit Namil Villa or the apartment complex they used in the drama last year link: here. I knew that a lot of fans visit the shooting location because the residents of the apartment villa were already used to fans taking photos outside their houses.

Fight For My Way Namil Bar Location

Last February, I read in the Facebook page of Dynamic Busan that the Namil Bar has been redecorated. I didn't expect it to be like that but it's now an "outdoor musuem" of Fight For My Way.

Must-visit for the fans of the drama who are touring around Busan - iba 'yung kilig kahit wala na sina Park Seo Joon at Kim Ji Won dun. :))

East & West Busan Exploration with Busan Skywalks, Gamcheon Culture Village, and Haedong Yonggungsa Temple Day Tour

Fight For My Way Namil Bar Location

How to get here:

Take the bus #87 and it will drop you off directly at this area. It was so easy. The left side of the road leads you to the cafe/outdoor musuem while the right side of the road leads to the real namil bar which is a rooftop of a house.

If it's your first time in Busan, it will be better to wait for the bus in NAMPO-DONG at the bus station near JAGALCHI and get of at Hoecheon Maeul Ip Gu/Hocheon Village Cultural Center. The travel time is less than 40 minutes.

If you have internet then you can search: Hocheon Village Cultural Center in Google Map.

Some instructions going here are via subway but the walk may be confusing because there are several alleys in this area of Busan so it will be better to take the bus #87. I think only bus #87 ply the route so just take it going there and back to either Busan Station or Nampo.

Fight For My Way Namil Bar Location

Less than five minutes walk from the bus station.

Fight For My Way Namil Bar Location

Circle on the left is the redecorated Namil bar and the smaller circle on the right is the original shooting location used in Fight For My Way. Above are some other places/tourist attraction in the area, a scene in Shopping King Louise was filmed near the area too.

Fight For My Way Namil Bar Location

It's impossible not to spot this sign.

Two years have passed since the drama was shown on television and yet you'd still see this. Sobrang effort nito, Busan! Kamsahamnida. <3

Aside from Fight For My Way, there were other Kdramas that were shot in the area but FFMW is definitely on another level. Just look at how they decorated this place! Hindi lang 'to 'yung mga poster sa restaurants saying na naging shooting location sila, this area was made with FFMW and FFMW fans in mind. Marami siguro talagang nagpunta sa shooting locations that they made an area specifically for it.

Fight For My Way Namil Bar Location

Wala kong ibang masabi aside from this is a must-visit not only by the drama fans but this place has a good overlooking view of Busan.

Fight For My Way Namil Bar Location Busan

There's a cafe there but it was closed the day we visited the area.

In the shelves are photos and memorabilia from the drama and in the bottles are drawings and quotes from the drama as well.

I'm out of words, really but I'm posting a lot more photos below just to show you the entire area.

This is the cafe.

Fight For My Way is my favorite Korean drama - hindi ba obvious sa pag shooting location hunting ko. lolz.

I was so happy to find out that a lot of Park Seo Joon's fans like it the most too when we were asked during his fan meet last month in Mall of Asia Arena.

Park Seo Joon's Fan Meet link: here.

Before the sun completely set, we decided to go to the original shooting location.

There were several murals that you can spot along the way. The original filming location was only around 5 minutes walk.

It will be impossible to miss this house too since there's a sign and a tarpaulin in front.

Weird ba na kahit wala naman si Seo Joon at Ji Won e kilig na kilig ako?! Hahaha! A lot of scenes were filmed here so this is Mission Accomplished for a fan, you know.

This is a residential area so make sure not to make a lot of noise. Leave the spazzing in the cultural center and take photos here quietly. lol.

Sorry, Choi Ae Ra. Pati cardboard, pinapatulan. HAHAHA!

MORE PHOTOS:

Hindi itong nasa baba 'yung conversation nung ganyan itsura nila pero pwede na... :))

"Let’s just say I don’t. It’s better to live as if you don’t have a dream. If you do have a dream, you feel sorry for yourself. Must everyone have a dream, anyway? Even if I don’t have a dream, the world goes ’round just fine."

We would've bought drinks did we know that the cafe would be closed that day. It would've been so nice and relaxing to drink a hot beverage on a cold night like this while looking at the view.

Few minutes after sunset, a lot of Korean people came as well and they weren't only taking photos of the view but of namil bar decorations as well. :">
