Heard you were looking for this? hehehe.

Three flavors were recently launched as limited edition ice creams, two of which we were able to buy today: Choco Chip Cookie Dough and Matcha Cookies and Cream.

A pint is sold for P 126.50 in Mightee Mart.

Will I repurchase?

Yes.

Taking into consideration its price and taste, this is one of the better options of matcha ice cream in the market.

Selecta's version of the regular cookies and cream is a comfort food for me since I grew up eating that flavor. I don't remember how 2019 version tasted like, but I think I like this more.

I said in 2019, and I quote, "medyo matagal kong hinanap 'yung matcha ice cream..."

Well. Say no more. This tastes like an oreo matcha latte made into an ice cream (but it isn't oreo 😛). You taste bits of chocolate cookies together with a matcha ice cream.

Having tasted a few premium matcha gelato and ice creams in the past few years, this version is not too potent for me but I think it was made with the palate of the general public in mind. This probably won't get the usual feedback of "lasang damo" whenever I recommend matcha to non-matcha drinkers.

Again, it's mild but matcha's taste is there (matcha level 2 ganon). Cookie bits are a bit sweet and chocolatey then it melts in your mouth together with the slight bitterness of matcha. I'd pay another P 126.00 for a pint of that flavor experience.

Just showing you this, I haven't tasted this yet.

This gelato place in Asakusa was my number one must-visit (when it comes to food) during our Tokyo Trip. There's just way too much options in Tokyo that it's kinda hard to narrow down but this place topped them all because of their location and them having the "Strongest Matcha in the World."

Actually, this wasn't the first time I ate a matcha gelato of this level. I remember buying a scoop when we went to Yufuin in Fukuoka. I also got the most potent one back then but they didn't say that it was the strongest so I was looking forward to this.

Japan 2019: Yufuin Food Trip and Yufuin No Mori Train Ride, Northern Kyushu

It's better to check shop opening time online before going.

This was in Senso-ji Area. Our itinerary was Senso-ji Temple so we wanted to beat the crowd and headed there at around 8 AM before the shops open. We walked towards the back where this shop was located but it was still closed. Left to explore more of Senso-ji and went back before 11 AM.

Several minutes before opening, there were people in line already because this shop went viral last year and the queue was long most of the time.

I got number 7 which was the premium matcha, and number 4 which was a milder matcha.

This was on the same day with Sumidagawa Fireworks Festival or Sumidagawa Hanabi Taikai so the shops in this area closed at 4 PM that day to make way for the festival.

Tokyo, Japan: Matsuri!! (Summer Festivals We Attended)

Looking forward to the day when I'd be able to go matcha shopping in Uji, Kyoto.

I would have loved to taste all the matcha levels though. HAHAHA. Despite being a "matcha addict" for several years, I'm not really well informed of the different varieties of matcha. I would love to learn more about it though... someday.

There's a space upstairs where you can eat your gelato. There are no seats but there are several tables.

Notice I had beads of perspiration on my forehead. HAHAHAHA. Grabe! Japan summer travel is very challenging because of the insane heat. Even if I'm used to the Philippine summer, the heat in Japan was on a different level.

I loved both of these. #7 is potent but not bitter. Still, it's not recommended for matcha "beginners."

My matcha standard had gotten so high after our Tokyo Trip. I'm not so picky before but I disliked most of the cafes selling matcha here in PH after that trip - mahal at kulang sa lasa madalas. I'd rather drink at home unless it's for socializing with friends. This is because I was able to purchase premium matcha powders this trip unlike our trip to Fukuoka when all I bought were matcha chocolates so it never sunk in me that the "Japan quality" matcha drink depends on the powder. 🤣

It's advisable to decide on your orders before reaching the counter.

@xtintina15 Tasted the strongest matcha in the world, and I wanna keep coming back. 💚 I ordered matcha #4 and #7 for comparison, #7 didn't disappoint me - truly of the most potent I've eaten. Although it wasn't bitter, matcha taste that strong isn't for everyone but as a "matcha addict" I loved it soooo much. 💚 Uji, Kyoto someday 🤞 #matcha #suzukien #matchaicecream #asakusa #tokyotravel #suzukienasakusa #strongestmatcha #japan #tokyo #matchalover #japanesematcha #icecream ♬ Matcha - Tuuh

Just wanted to share a "discovery" I had last November when we went to Hong Kong. So I've been drinking green tea and matcha for as long as I can remember. I loved dining in Genki Sushi because of their complimentary "unilimited matcha powder" but I never took the time to research about it. All along, I thought that since it's powdered then it should be a lower class matcha powder.

Take note that this might be a common knowledge to some but this was news to me last year.

Genki Sushi, UPTC

Japan 2019: Uobei Sushi in Yodobashi Hakata, Fukuoka (I think this is closed already.)

This is the one I'm talking about. I looked it up and according to their website, it's definitely green tea powder from Kagoshima.

Mukha kasi siya 'yung ibang matcha powder na nabibili rito sa'tin sa Manila, diba?

Anyway,

I felt so dehydrated during our summer Japan trip and that cold green tea felt like a savior every night.

This became our favorite dinner place when we went to Japan last year. Notice the cold service green tea pitcher that was far from where I was seated. I kept refilling during the meal until the server noticed that I stood up quite a couple of times so he then placed the refilled pitcher in front of me.

It has always been placed in front of me during the next nights. Arigatou! HAHAHAHA. Nakakahiya ng slight. HAHAHAHA

Personally, I find it mild but for my friend who doesn't like drinking teas, she told me that it's a bit potent for me to call it mild. Idk 🙊🙊

During the nights that we dined it there, I always found myself wondering what it was then somehow concluded that it's cold-brewed green tea because I was unaware of the existence of green tea powders.

When I saw the Cold Brew Green Tea bag in Donki (right), I thought that I've solved the problem until I had to spend a lot of time trying to brew the bags and still didn't taste like those drinks I had in Japan.

I know that brewing green tea takes time and I would love to attend a proper tea ceremony (led by Minghao hahaha!) someday but for now especially for those times when I'm rushing, I've been good with instant green tea bags.

Seventeen's Follow to Bulacan

The problem remained unsolved until Don Don Donki in Hong Kong happened and I chanced upon these three Jonetz Powder.

May green tea powder pala?! Would've solved this immediately if I Googled, right? May green tea powder pala! You can taste the difference of green tea powder and matcha powder at once but I never really paid attention until last November.

Anyway, I've been enjoying these green tea powders. These have become my go-to drink since November.

It doesn't even have a steeping time, mix lang sa iced water then I'm good to go.

KBYE

Gusto ko lang i-share bilang isang matcha and green tea addict na not all powders are the same. AHAHAHAHAHA.

Selecta Christmas Collection Matcha Ice Cream

Wala na bang ila-labo 'tong picture ko?? :)))

I have no idea how long has this been out in the market but here's my most recent matcha discovery: Selecta's Christmas Collection in Matcha Cookies and Cream variant.

I was craving for a matcha mcflurry for some days now but I was told that it's no longer offered in stores. Disappointed, I browsed through the ice cream freezers in a grocery near me (which I rarely do, btw) and my heart jumped with joy and excitement when I saw this 1.3 L ice cream container which was priced under P 300.00!!!

NOTE: AFAIK. This is not for sale anymore but I've been enjoying Superfoods' version these days.

Heard you were looking for this? Selecta's Matcha Cookies and Cream 2024.

I wasn't expecting a lot from this though but since I like Selecta's Cookies and Cream variant too, it got easier to decide. I just hoped that the matcha won't taste like Jasmine 'cause that would definitely something I won't be able to eat.

My verdict?

I LIKED IT!

It's a lot like Mcdonald's Mcflurry, only this isn't a soft served. The ice cream has a faint matcha taste but the matcha syrup and the big chunks of oreos made up for it. You would taste the PLEASANT slight bitterness whenever you're melting the matcha chocolate/matcha syrup in your mouth.

Selecta Christmas Collection Matcha Ice Cream

Most of all, I loved that it doesn't taste like flowers.

Selecta Christmas Collection Matcha Ice Cream

Baked a red velvet cupcake and made my own cupcake a la mode topped almond sliced and chocolate syrup. Never craved for another matcha mcflurry after this.

I was hoping for it to last around a week but we finished it within three days of CONTROLLED EATING. lol. :)))) K. That's it.  I'm just happy that it's readily available to me

NOTE: AFAIK. This is not for sale anymore but I've been enjoying Superfoods' version these days.

First Time in Japan: Northern Kyushu Itinerary, Expenses and Travel Tips (From Hakata in Fukuoka)

I've been to several Starbucks cafe before but this branch in Dazaifu, Fukuoka, Japan has the most interesting and unique interior design. As you can see in the picture above, there are cedar woods design outside and inside the cafe.

This alley has a lot of souvenir and snack shops but this Starbucks is very easy to spot on the way to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine from the train station.

Hoping to go to the Tokyo Starbucks next year.

The place isn't huge so expect that there's always a wait for tables. We went inside to see if there are vacant seats but since there were none, we went out again and proceeded to explore the temple first. (Dazaifu Tenmangu Shine would be posted separately)

After walking around the shrine, we decided to go back to Starbucks and no customers were occupying the seats outside. A bit shy lang 'cause people keep taking photos of the store with us in the frame. Haha.

Often, I'd pretend to think of what I'd want to drink but then would settle with my default Starbucks drink almost everytime. I even ask them to add more scoops of matcha powder 'cause I prefer it strong.

Tasting matcha in Japan has made me more picky, I swear. I don't drink nor eat matcha that much anymore since I often get disappointed now. Sayang pera. lol

Mawawala ba naman ang photoops sa Starbucks. hahaha. At least, hindi selfie, noh. :)))

I don't drink coffee still but Starbucks has become one my go-to places for a matcha fix - it has been like that for almost ten years now.

Plus more photo-ops since there were less people that time.

We took our time with our drinks and photo-ops only to realize that stores close very early - only SB was left open and it wasn't even 6 PM.

At the end of the picturesque Maokong Cable Car, you'll reach Maokong Village which is known for its tea culture and different beginner-friendly hiking trails.

[Klook Link] Maokong Gondola Combo Ticket in Taipei

The Village became a quick stop for us since the day was ending (fast) when we got here; we stayed for only three hours so we weren't able to explore the hiking trails (something that I was looking forward to tbh, because I still dream of having my photo taken in a tea field. lol)

Instead, we just ate since there were a lot of food options there! :3

Whatever this is, this became one of my favorite food in Taiwan. Hindi siya hotdog pero hindi rin naman sausage.

Make use of your coins when you're travelling abroad unless you want to keep those as souvenirs.

One thing I was really looking forward back then was tasting this soft-served matcha ice cream in Maokong. I'd search for Maokong in Instagram before our trip and this ice cream was always posted in the tagged photos.

We tried to walk for a bit to find more places to explore but it was drizzling so we weren't able to.

That place above is what I wanted to visit.

But heck

Being surrounded by fog, mountains, and low-lying clouds were all I needed to make this trip a very memorable one.

Aside from cat statues, there are some 3D paintings in the village.

We wanted to take the bus down the mountain but soon decided to just take the cable as well.

AYUN NAMAN PALA KASI 'YUNG MUZHA! NGAYON KO LANG NABASA. HAHAHA

It took us a while to ride a cabin since the line was long... still got to ride before sundown.

Should I find myself again in Taipei, I'll be visiting Maokong once again.

The beautiful, cool and chill place is Maokong is perfect for us mga Teata! LAMOYON.  <3
